Team17 Announce Worms Crazy Golf For iPhone

SPOILER ALERT! This isn't a joke... What do you get if you cross one of my all-time favourite turn-based trajectory games with my third favourite sport? Worms Crazy Golf on iPhone, that's what. UK-based developers Team17 are, of course, the brains behind the long-running Worms series, and they recently announced that their famous band of garden invertebrates will be putting for glory later this year. Players will have to execute skilful chip shots and precision putts across three madcap 18-hole courses, while overcoming obstacles like castles that teleport balls and comedy bats. Old, familiar faces from the Worms universe will make an appearance in Worms Crazy Golf, including the sheep,…

Modern Combat 2 On Sale, Modern Combat 3 Inbound

Do you recall Jigsaw - sorry, me - inviting you to play a fun and exciting game last Wednesday? Yes, you do: it was called "Guess Gameloft's next FPS on iPhone", and the only clue supplied was a military-based piece of artwork. See, you do remember. As it transpires, the French studio weren't actually teasing a forthcoming first- or third-person shooter with their 'Join the resistance' tagline, 99c dog tag, and upturned round of bullets. No, instead, those little Gameloft teases were referring to an existing title: Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus. So, after all of that speculation and hype, Gameloft and I are delighted to inform you that their 5-star modern-day blast-'em-up has been redu…

Gobble Up Action-Platformer Muffin Knight On 1st September

Gobble Up Action-Platformer Muffin Knight On 1st September

What do Angry Mob Games's four-star twin-stick shooter Guerrilla Bob and their upcoming iPhone platformer Muffin Knight have in common, please? Pace. Lots of it. In fact, to describe the wise-cracking antics of the aforementioned Bob as anything less than 'frantic' would be to lie. (Plus, 'frantic antics' has a nice ring to it.) Muffin Knight, in all fairness, doesn't feature quite as much bullet-hell blasting as Guerrilla Bob, but more than compensates in other areas. For starters, the story of a young boy transformed into a knight by an aggrieved cake-baking fairy is, well, unique. The gameplay twist in which the accursed whippersnapper changes into a different creature every time he…

Edge Extended Now Available In All Good Apple Stores

Mobigame promised that their semi-sequel Edge Extended would be heading to iPhone "this summer". And with only six days to spare, that promise was upheld. If you never got around to playing the original Edge puzzle game, let me explain... From an isometric perspective, your mission is to drag an oddly characterful cube around a series of levels to the exit, taking extreme care not to fall of the paths. In Edge Extended, there are 44 levels, in fact, complemented by 23 perfectly pitched minimalist tunes and a few new gameplay mechanics. Those in possession of an iPhone 4 will appreciate that the French developers have included Retina display support in this cube-shifting experience. Tho…

Ride Some Crazy Waves With Eddie The Pig on iPhone

Ride Some Crazy Waves With Eddie The Pig on iPhone

Kelly Slater, Duke Kahanamoku, Johnny Utah: all legendary figures in the surfing world. To that Hall of Fame, we shall soon be adding Eddie, Eddie the Pig. I'm convinced. Eddie's the star of DnD Studios's ePig Surf, a casual, tilt-based, 99c adventure in which you steer the surfing swine over the thrashing waves. Being an amiable little grunter, Eddie has acquired a huge number of aquatic friends on his boarding travels over the summer. Unfortunately for our favourite squealer, any physical contact from the local dolphins, turtles, and octopi will result in a wipeout. Oh, and should Eddie bump into an inconveniently placed island or whirlpool, that's Game Over, too. One thing Eddie wil…

Grab Free In-Game Currency In Hospital Havoc 2 Over Next 2 Days

The social gaming network OpenFeint has selected Bitwise Design's iPhone sim Hospital Havoc 2 as its 'Free Game of the Day'. Nothing particularly unusual or thought provoking about that, I'm sure you'll agree. But if I was to tell you that Bitwise Design's medical time-management sim was ALREADY a free-to-play download from the App Store, then that may arouse a degree of curiosity. Maybe. That's why the Hospital Havoc 2 creators have something a - ahem - bit different up their surgical scrub sleeve for those aspiring doctors and nurses who tap 'BUY' over the next 48 hours. Every single new Hospital Havoc 2 player will receive 400 free muffins (the in-game currency, kids) to us…

On-Rails iPhone Shooter RAGE HD Goes Free For A Week

Well, I make that ten days. Thanks in no small part to my news post on 8th August, I'm sure, id Software's RAGE Facebook page has finally passed the 100,000 'Likes' threshold. You know what this means, right? Right. RAGE HD for iPhone, the recipient of an impressive 4 stars from Andrew, is free until 24th August on the App Store. So, if you've been (optimistically or what!) holding out for a sale like this on id Software's on-rails shooter, stop reading and start downloading. As the somewhat unwilling star of a post-apocalyptic TV game show, you have to survive a mutant onslaught by any means necessary in RAGE HD. Shooting them in the skull, principally. You can, of course, scour the…

Let's Play A Little 'Guess Gameloft's Next FPS On iPhone' Game

Hello, reader. I want to play a game. So far in what could loosely be called your gaming life, you've spent an eternity reading other people's blogs. Society would call you an observer, a watcher, a compliant cog. Anyways, enough of that freaky horror material... What I'd really like you to do today is speculate: speculate on the identity of the Gameloft shooter pictured below. This image of a cluster of bullets in front of a military dog tag was teased by the French development studio this afternoon via its Twitter feed. Not a huge amount to go on, I grant you. But there's a little more... Join the resistance for just $0.99. So, as I said - don your thinking cap, dust off your dete…

iBlast Moki 2 Exploding Onto iPhone This Thursday

What's the one thing better than an awesome iPhone game being on sale for a limited time? Nope, not that, you dirty boy. The one thing better than an awesome iPhone game being on sale, natch, is the news that a follow-up to an awesome iPhone game is in development. And what's the one thing better than an awesome i... Okay, I'll stop that now. Godzilab's cutesy physics-based puzzler iBlast Moki smashed onto the App Store almost two years ago, so we at AppSpy felt it was about time for a sequel to explode all over iTunes. Luckily, Godzilab agreed with our sentiment, and have pencilled in 18th August (aka 'this Thursday') as the launch date for iBlast Moki 2. To prepare AppSpy readers for…

Enigmatic Puzzler Hard Lines Slithers Down To Zero

If you haven't had the funds / inclination to relive those glory days of 'Snake on a brick' via the hilarious Hard Lines on iPhone, you're in luck, boyo. The reason is simple: Hard Lines's creators Spilt Milk Studio have teamed up with FreeAppADay to make their enigmatic little puzzler, well, free. Now, it's not often that an iPhone game we award the full five stars to drops to sweet FA in price, so do not hesitate. Read my fingers - Do. Not. Hesitate. In Hard Lines, you're presented with three different control methods (I prefer Swipey), six different modes (I prefer Time Attack), and all manner of caustic quips (I haven't got a preference) from the differently coloured AI 'snakes'. Yo…

Zelda and Mario Kart Possibly En Route To iPhone?

Zelda and Mario Kart Possibly En Route To iPhone?

Well, there's a headline I bet you thought you'd never see. Under pressure from its investors and feeling the pinch from a recent tough fiscal quarter, Nintendo may - and we can't stress MAY enough here - be considering developing games for the iPhone, according to Bloomberg. Despite the 3DS maker's president Saturo Iwata stating on record that Ninty will never produce titles for rival platforms during his tenure, money talks, and Apple by comparison have almost got a licence to print money at present. If the venerable Japanese video game company fails to demonstrate it has the wherewithal and ingenuity for a long-term battle with Apple's increasingly popular portable devices, then it may…

Legendary Management Sim Theme Park Heading To iPhone Later This Year

Following the release of golden oldies Dragon's Lair 2 and James Pond in recent months on iPhone, another bona fide veteran of the gaming scene is preparing to debut on Apple's mobile platform. Those of you over 20 will recall most of your free time in the mid-'90s being eaten up by one particular management sim. Those of you under 20 will soon discover what that felt like. Yes, Bullfrog's seminal amusement park build-'em-up Theme Park is riding into the App Store fairground later this year. Theme Park on iPhone will be published by video game goliath Electronic Arts, who acquired Bullfrog Productions in 1995. It's, therefore, in the best possible hands. We hope. As for Theme Park's gam…

100,000 Likes On Facebook = RAGE HD Free For A Week

And there we were thinking that French publisher Gameloft is the only studio that relishes giving something back to its loyal fandom. How wrong we could be. Over on id Software's RAGE Facebook page, the creators of pioneering first-person shooters Doom and Quake have teamed up with RAGE HD's developer on iPhone Bethesda to run a fascinating promotion. Once this particular page has been 'Liked' 100,000 times on Zuckerberg's social network, RAGE HD will be made available for free for one week. At the time of going to press, 48,031 folks have officially declared themselves interested in this freebie deal - thus, there's still some way to go before we pass the RAGE HD threshold. As for RAGE…

Tap Along To 50 Songs From Fox TV's Glee on iPhone

She's just a small town girl, living in a lonely world; She took the midnight train... Just one of the tens of tens of classic pop anthems the cast of Fox TV phenomenon Glee has reinterpreted / mutilated over the past two seasons. And now, iPhone gamers get the chance to tap along in time to their heart's content to these 'Gleeful' reinterpretations / mutilations of Lady Gaga's and Journey's hits. Tap Tap Glee is Tapulous's newest rhythm-action game for Apple's mobile marvel, following in the relatively recent footsteps of Honolulu balladeer Bruno Mars's tie-in. Tap Tap Glee's soundtrack comprises 50 tracks - all, natch, taken from the series - though only five of these cover versions ar…

Horrid Henry Movie Tie-In Catapults Onto iPhone

Some of you may know Horrid Henry through his almost never-ending series of books, movies, and inspirational lectures. I know him through the worst DS game of all time: Horrid Henry's Horrid Adventure. I have played this game. It is Superman 64 bad. Now, the same developers have come out with an iPhone game. Yayyyy! Comprising three separate mini-games, Horrid Henry's Horrid App takes its cue from the recent live-action film. There's an Angry Birds-style catapulting section, where you soak Moody Margaret with a water balloon; a dressing up game; and a standard obstacle-dodging platformer. This latest addition to the Horrid Henry canon is out now for $2.99. It can't be any worse than the…
