Keep off my Hill Launch Trailer (iPad only)

If you're one of those people that just can't get enough of defense game you should check out the launch trailer for Keep off my Hill, the title just released for iPad from Isopod Labs. It looks nice and colourful, with plenty to do based on having to scroll through multiple sides of your base. It's also free, so as long as there's no overly aggresive in-app purchasing, it's easy to get a hold of as well.  If you give it a go, tell us what you think in the comments.[App Store Link]…

Leviathan: Warships - A smooth trailer for an April 30th Release

Now, this upcoming release by Paradox Interactive (with a reputation for making flawed, yet interesting games) is iPad exclusive in iOS circles, but it also is getting simultaneous release on Android, PC, and Mac. Also, there is cross-platform play between all. Have a watch of one of the more entertaining trailers to come out in some time, and see if this warship title might be for you once April 30th rolls around.…

Behind the Scenes: Fish out of Water

The big release of this week is obviously Halfbrick's new title, Fish out of Water. While our review will no doubt be up within a day or two of release, why not wet your appetite (heh), with this behind the scenes video that Halfbrick has released. Expectations are high based on the company's previous successes Fruit Ninja, and Jetpack Joyride. Will Fish out of Water follow? We'll have to wait and see.…

Freeq: An Audio Adventure

Freeq: An Audio Adventure

[Edit] Freeq is now live! You can grab it here! We've seen this sort of thing on the App Store before, but the idea of an audio adventure game really intrigues me. The game acts as if your phone is able to pick up phone and radio signals from the future, and you can hijack signals and connect people. From the trailer, the whole thing sounds well acted, so if the story is strong, this could be really fun. It'd be like playing an old radio drama. Have a look at the trailer. The game is currently under Apple's submission process. They're aiming to release next week, but it could be a little longer. We'll let you know when we do.…

Cling! Review

Cling! Review

Instead of a platformer, Cling is amusingly referred to as a 'pegformer', and this is as accurate a description as any. As a capsule toy in a vending machine, you get stuck on your way to the hands of a small child, and now your squid-y tendrils must navigate the pegs, clear the hazards, and reach the end of each stage safely. There are two control schemes that you can switch between with a simple shake of your iPhone. The first is a system where by touching the screen in the directio…

Dream Chaser Review

Dream Chaser Review

With so many endless runners, it relieves us game reviewers when we see a new idea brought to the table, as small a change as it may be. What can stand to infuriate us more than just an average entry into this genre is if the change ends being to the detriment of the whole experience. That's where we find ourselves with Dream Chaser, an endless runner that while having an endless mode also includes a story mode, where the mechanics and intricacies of the game are spread out alongside a…

Gemini Rue Review

Gemini Rue Review

A few years ago Gemini Rue was released on PC to a lot of critical praise. A cyberpunk science fiction tale about a police officer named Azreal trying to locate his brother who is being held at some sort of deep space memory wiping and retraining facility, you play as both characters as the narrative unfolds towards a stunning climax that earns this title the mantle of one the most interesting adventure games to be released in years. Now it's on iOS! The trick with this review is not t…

App Wrap Up (Week Ending 12th April, 2013)

Wrapup By Dave Flodine, 11 years, 1 month ago
App Wrap Up (Week Ending 12th April, 2013)

Hey hey readers, and welcome to another installment of the App Wrap Up! We're back to iPhone-centric trailers this week, although I do have another iPad only update in the works (plus some other specific installments)... but that's for the future. The present is now! Let's look at some trailers for games that may have passed under the radar and comment on them!   Sorted! (Mighty Kingdom Pty Ltd) A game about sorting objects into their own shaped holes. Simplistic? Yes, but with the arcade timer, and presentation, I think this might be more difficult and addictive than some might give it credit for.[App Store Link]   Strip Music Box (Illkill.) Yes it's another rhythm game.…

Rayman Jungle Run updates with 20 new levels

Rayman Jungle Run was one of my top 5 games of 2012, and i'm still trying to perfect every level whenever I have a few minutes to spare. Luckily I can take a break from that endeavour as an update has arrived with twenty brand new levels to play through. Even better, they've added a new gameplay element in boss persuits! Have a look at the trailer. Well, I know what I'm going to spend some of my afternoon on. If you haven't given the game a try yet, now's as good a time as any![App Store Link]…

A Remake of Prince of Persia 2 Headed to iOS

A Remake of Prince of Persia 2 Headed to iOS

The original remake of Prince of Persia was a personal favourite of mine as a downloadable title on consoles. I felt it streamlined the original gameplay while adding a lot of visual flair, especially in the prince's animations. Now Ubisoft have decided to tackle the 1993 sequel, The Shadow and the Flame as well. Here's a teaser trailer. The first level of that game, where you're hopping rooftops, trying to escape the guards has solidified in my memory to this day. Here's hoping this remake adds the same level of excitement and intrigue as the original had in its set pieces. It also looks like they might have changed the way combat works, but we'll have to wait till the game is…

Mr. Runner 2

News By Dave Flodine, 11 years, 1 month ago
Mr. Runner 2

In the trailer for this upcoming sequel, it boasts that Mr. Runner was the number one free game on the App Store (we assume if true, that's at the time of release). Even though we missed out reviewing the original, the sequel is looking... well interesting might be the right word. Have a look at the trailer. I mean as a runner it looks pretty generic mechanically, but there's just enough flair in the presentation to make one pause and give it a shot. We'll know more when it releases on te 24th of April.…

Bobbing Review

Review Little Bobby By Dave Flodine, 11 years, 1 month ago
Bobbing Review

Even after this many years, the platformer astounds me with the ability of creative game designers using simple jump mechanics to create new and appealing experiences. Now that's a big of false advertising when it comes to Bobbing. Yes it does use platformer mechanics to create a unique and engaging experience, but as you walk around the circular designs of this world, it is not jumping that will be taking up your time, but switching gravity. The goal of each stage is to reach the end…

Gun Commando: Old School FPS Coming to iOS this Month

Gun Commando: Old School FPS Coming to iOS this Month

A game that not only evokes memories of the early days of FPS through its presentation and movement, but has a bit of interesting mechanic in that better weapons are tied to chaining kills on enemies together. Have a look at the trailer for the original Vita release. If the touch controls work well, those looking for a fast paced FPS throwback should enjoy Gun Commando. We'll let you know when a release date is announced aside from just 'sometime in April'.…

Cosmic Conquest

Cosmic Conquest

Sort of a faster paced Galcon or Tentacle Wars, Cosmic Conquest has an interesting visual style and simple touch interface that looks like we might have another winner when it comes to iOS real time strategy titles. Have a look at the trailer and see what we mean. You'll have to wait a little while, it's not releasing till the 25th of April. We'll let you know more then.…

'The Prey' is 'Into the Dead'... with Wolves!

News By Dave Flodine, 11 years, 1 month ago
'The Prey' is 'Into the Dead'... with Wolves!

Last year's Into the Dead, while not a revolutionary game, managed to make an impression with its atmospheric presentation and smooth gameplay. When any game makes an impression, you'll see other studios wanting to tackle the idea in their own way (some veering closer to cloned gameplay than others). The Prey takes this gameplay idea and sets it in a frozen forest as you try and outrun a pack of hungry wolves. Obviously the title and the setting is a play on last year's 'The Grey' starring Liam Neeson, but it does look like it could be enjoyable, if just for the change of scenery. The game was just released on the App Store.[App Store Link]…
