Our chums at Pocket Gamer are giving away a fantastic game from 2014 every day for a fortnight

'Tis the season, and to celebrate Pocket Gamer have pulled out all the stops with to ensure you're kept very busy for the lead up to Yuletide. From tomorrow, Pocket Gamer will guarantee one tip-top iOS game from 2014 goes free on the App Store every weekday until the 19th of December. We've seen the super-secret list, but we can't give any hints as to what's coming. As Samuel L. Jackson puts it: Let's give a round of applause to all the devs who have so generously scheduled their games to go free. Be sure to recommend the ones you grab to your friends around the dinner table this holiday season!…

Monster Hunter Freedom Friday fan video makes us do a little weepy

Our dear Twitch stream regular Curtneedsaride, also known as Curtis Shideler, joined us for our regular Monster Hunter Freedom Unite last Friday and popped the above video in the chat room towards the end of our session. Collecting moments and sound bites from our glorious past broadcasts, it brought tears to the eyes of everyone in the AppSpy office. Very much appreciated Curt - should you ever need that ride we'll be happy to pick you up on the AppSpy bus (er... if it's ever in your neck of the woods). Remember to join us over on Twitch every Friday at 5pm BST / 9am PDT for Monster Hunter Freedom Friday! *mouth horn noises*  …

Elysian Shadows promises to be a next-gen 2D RPG

If you're itching for something like the RPGs of 16-bit yore, only with a modern sheen, then by jove you're in luck. Elysian Shadows is an upcoming Kickstarter-backed isometric 2D Action RPG that's managed to nab well over half its required funding in just 10 days. Yes, we have the odd retro-inspired RPG plop on to the App Store every fortnight or so, but this team is aiming to "push the envelope" by fusing 16-bit charm with modern techniques. In Elysian Shadows, you'll be able to lob anything in your inventory at baddies, bask in 3D lighting for 2D sprites, and witness the spectacle of particle physics that I have no idea how to explain. Check out the video below for a glimpse of the ga…

We're streaming Modern Combat 5: Blackout live on Twitch (5pm UK | 9am Pacific | 12 noon Eastern)

Only a couple of days left till Modern Combat 5: Blackout hits the App Store! As such, we're continuing Modern Combat week on our Twitch channel today, streaming an hour or more of Modern Combat 5: Blackout! In case you missed it, we had a Modern Combat retrospective yesterday. We found that as time has gone on, each iteration of the Modern Combat series has been tighter, more graphically oustanding, and even more explosive than the game before it. This bodes very well indeed for the latest entry in the series. The wonderful chaps and chapettes over at Gameloft have given us five fabulous (large size) Modern Combat 5 hoodies to give away to folks in the UK & Ireland. While one c…
