Hands-on with The Ember Conflict, the soft-launched strategy game with a thing for pugs

There's a fair amount of tactical depth to The Ember Conflict, I tell you. You can grab and dominate the zones littered about each stage, or simply destroy your opponent's team through strategic play - it's up to you. I had a quick look at the soft-launched version, here's how I got on. [App Store link]…

DUO! aims to reinvent pair-em up memory games and is out tomorrow on iOS

At first glance, DUO! looks to be just like every other match-two puzzler. You tap face down cards on the board to reveal their numbers, memorising them so that you can match two in future. Where it differs here, though, is that you can go on a straight if you discover where one, two, and three are hiding, giving you more points. There are plenty of bonuses and minigames to round out DUO!'s eighty levels of regular play. Check out the trailer below in anticipation of DUO! arriving on the App Store tomorrow, 5th February.  …

6 more real versions of mobile games, featuring Scribblenauts, Peggle, Minecraft, and more

After the last time we looked at a bunch of mobile games that had been given a real world twist, I realised that there were a whole heap more we'd managed to miss. Seriously, there were some incredible videos that didn't make our list last time round. So to rectify that, let's dive straight into part 2. Angry Birds Go! - Go karting has changed since I was a kid. Peggle - Absolute bliss, and Bjorn is looking just fantastic. Minecraft: Pocket Edition - Because of course someone did a Minecraft one. Plants vs Zombies - I don't remember the game being this... epic. Scribblenauts - Excellent work (as always) from Smosh. Flappy Bird - How to make a super simple game way more comp…

Fire King Claudius out of a cannon in the name of justice with To Be or Not To Be

A roomful of monkeys are theorised to be able to eventually re-write the complete works of Shakespeare. What's more likely is that they'd write something chaotic, nonsensical, violent, and frankly a lot more fun. With To Be or Not To Be, Tin Man Games channels its inner simian to warp Hamlet into a surreal and irreverent Gamebook.Check out the trailer below to discover just why Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are the guys to be with on a party cruise.…

Swap Heroes 2 aims to improve pretty much every aspect of the original on February 18th

Swap Heroes may have the most self-explanatory title of all time. You control a party of four heroes - three at the front, one at the back. The one at the back can be swapped with any of those in the front during your turn in combat. Doing so will unleash the swapped character's special ranged or melee attack on the enemies in front of him. Plenty of new stuff has been added such as a quest system, character upgrades, and an endless mode where you fight until you die - just like in the original. Swap Heroes 2 is set to launch on the App Store on February 18th. Check out the official trailer below.…

How to play Bayonetta on your iPhone (sort of)

Yes, you read that correctly, AppSpies - you can now play Bayonetta on your iPhone. However, before your hopes get raised and then brought crashing down to earth in a spiral of hatred and death threats, this isn't the full Bayonetta experience that you'd get on your chosen console. Take a deep breath. This is the browser version of Bayonetta - which is still Bayonetta, just not THAT Bayonetta. You see? Check out the video below where James shows you how to get it running on your phone and a little taste as to how the game plays. Enjoy!…

Check out Vainglory's newest hero and technological powerhouse, Ardan

Ardan is the latest hero to be added to the Vainglory roster and he looks set to offer something a little different for veterans of the visually stunning MOBA. He's all about the technology, is Ardan, with a metal backpack and armour attached to a massive robotic arm that puts even Arnold Schwarzenegger's to shame. Ardan can take a few blows, with most of his abilities based around negating damage for himself and his companions. He also utilises his own energy system known as 'vengeance' which is empty when he begins a fight but both attacking and using abilities smartly recharges it for use. Check out the video below for an in-depth look at Vainglory's latest hero then follow t…

Sons of Anarchy: The Prospect iPad Review

Sons of Anarchy: The Prospect iPad Review

The Sons of Anarchy TV show might have come to a miserable end, but Orpheus Interactive has released Sons of Anarchy: The Prospect, a grim and gritty adventure game set in the same universe. There are bikes, there are swear words, and there are cringe-worthy speeches about honour and loyalty. But is it actually any cop? Pocket Gamer's Harry Slater reckons not. Have a gander at the video above to find out why.…

Hands-on with Beat the Beat, the indie shmup firing on all dubstep cannons

Coming to iOS, Android, and Windows Phone in summer of 2015, Beat the Beat is a rhythm action dubstep shooter, in which the enemies are brought into play and react to the music being played. As you can probably expect, this combo of dynamic and bass heavy beats, mixing with intense shooting and dodging makes for some incredibly gameplay - gameplay that really needs to be seen (and heard) to be believed. Which is exactly what you can do by pressing play on the video below.…

Hands-on with Fast & Furious: Legacy, Kabam's new drift and drag racer

Fast & Furious: Legacy is currently in soft-launch in Denmark, and since the original game was so gosh darn popular I simply had to go see if this new one is up to the same standard of the series. It's certainly well within Kabam's wheelhouse: a drag and drift racer with some auto-runner elements included for good measure too. Here's how it looks, if you have a Danish account you can grab it from the link under the video. [App Store link]…

Hands-on with Angry Birds Fight!, the match-3 birdie brawler

So Angry Birds Fight! is a match-3 puzzler with RPG elements, and I'm not massively impressed with what I've played so far of the soft-launched version currently available in Thailand. It's not a bad game at all, though the audio isn't nearly up to the franchise's usual high quality, it's just that it's in a genre that's kind of played out at this point, and a match-3 would have to do something really interesting to grab my attention these days. Maybe you'll like the look of it? Find out by clicking play on the video below. [App Store link]…

The top 10 Action RPGs that are yet to make it onto mobile

Action RPGs have found a reasonably good home on mobile. We have Dungeon Hunter, Kingsroad, and Bastion which all have deft touch controls, expansive worlds to explore, and, most importantly, loot. Lots of loot. However, mobile definitely needs more of the classic entries in the genre, so I've compiled a list of the 10 best action RPGs that could conceivably come to mobile. 1. Diablo II - Arguably the most important action RPG of all time, the Diablo franchise instilled in a lot of gamers an unhealthy addiction to loot  that still remains today. Diablo II is the highlight of the franchise so far. 2. Torchlight II - If…
