Star Pigs coming to the App Store this Thursday

For those of you who love their competitive card games, Star Pigs not only is one of those... in space, but also plays out the battles in 3D real time. Fans of strategy and card games should check out the trailer, and keep an eye out for its release later on in the week. And for those of you looking for a more in-depth look at the game, here's Part 1 of 3 of a preview explaining the game mechanics. [Star Pigs Website]…

Hiversaires is a cryptic point and click adventure

Hiversaires is a cryptic point and click adventure

Back in the old days you didn't have maps in your games, you had to make them yourself, drawing out the turns and encounters you came across as you explored whatever labyrinth the developer had made for you. And that sense of discovery is something that Hiversaires is aiming for. Created by Devine Lu Linvega, the game takes place in a shadowy futuristic world, presents you with no text, and leaves you alone to explore, experience, and puzzle your way through its stark grey corridors with taps and swipes. This isn't your standard iOS fare, as you might imagine, and it's not going to spark much interest in the casual crowd, but for those who long to be the cartographers on their own expediti…

Cut the Rope: Time Travel Review

Cut the Rope: Time Travel Review

Cut the Rope is a game that can be mentioned alongside such iOS runaway luminaries as Angry Birds, Temple Run, and Doodle Jump. It's one of those titles that blended simple gameplay mechanics, short levels, a cute character, and a ton of content to create a nexus point of addictive laden success. ZeptoLabs followed up their smash hit with Cut the Rope: Experiments which added a new character in the professor, as well as introducing fun new mechanics like the suction cup. Now in Cut the…

Appspy Transition

Appspy Transition

Heya loyal readers. Andrew will probably either add to this article or make his own, but Appspy will be going through a bit of a transition, and whether it's temporary or permenant remains to be seen. You may have noticed that the site has been quiet since about Thursday, and the latest review to just go up has no video to accompany it. Well I will still be updating the site with new written reviews, and any news I can find, but the video content will be absent for the foreseeable future. For those of you just here for our excellent video reviews, we understand, and hopefully they can resume sooner than later. To those that stick around and continue to support us, we give our thanks. Your…

Bottle Cap Blitz Review

Bottle Cap Blitz Review

Now usually games like Bottle Cap Blitz can be easy to discount. They're very simple premises (even more simple than when a game here is praised for being simple), they're high score games, and they offer brief gameplay bursts with a small dose of progression to keep people enthralled. There's nothing wrong with this formula. Games like Paper Toss were able to use its simple premise and mechanics to make something fiendishly addictive, and funnily enough Bottle Cap Blitz is in the same…

App Wrap Up (Week Ending 19th April, 2013)

Hey hey dear readers, and welcome to the App Wrap Up; your one stop shop for unique iOS game trailers. You'll have to excuse me if i'm a little erratic today. I completed Bioshock Infinite this morning, so my mind is still mulling over what transpired there. Still, here I am with a few trailers of games that might have fallen under the radar for your enjoyment. Let us take a look!   Tower Zoo (MiniWorldGames) Obviously for a younger audience, this competitive match-3 game has charming presentation, and looks like a lot of fun to play, especially against another person.[App Store Link]   First Person Tennis (Michele Laurello) I imagine there's likely a reason that we…

Iron Man 3 trailer arrives, possibly heroically

Iron Man 3 trailer arrives, possibly heroically

Last summer, Gameloft released a couple of superhero movie tie ins – The Amazing Spider-man and The Dark Knight Rises. While neither of them was spectacular, they were solid third person brawlers with a premium price point and a good chunk of heroic content for you to get your teeth into. Fast forward to now and Iron Man 3 is the latest license that Gameloft has their hands on, but rather than building a similar free-roaming beat 'em up, they've turned Tony Stark's latest adventure into a free-to-play endless runner where you spend money on upgrading Iron Man's suits. They've just released the first trailer – you'll find it embedded below – which shows what you can expect…

Ark of Sinners Advance Review

Review Bulkypix By Andrew Nesvadba, 11 years ago
Ark of Sinners Advance Review

Those who travel in the RPG circles may be familiar with the Anima: Beyond Fantasy game system, but for those who aren't it's set in a strange hybrid fantasy world that has both futuristic and medieval elements to it. The latest release from Bulkypix is set within this dark and Gothic universe, and while Ark of Sinners has high aspirations in its Metroid/vania like gameplay, it falls desperately short of the mark. Most of the blame can be directed towards the game's flabby controls -…

Fish Out Of Water! Review

Fish Out Of Water! Review

The success of Jetpack Joyride has given Halfbrick Studios a kind of blueprint for future releases to follow. Fish Out Of Water! is the latest from the Aussie studio, however you'll be trading in your skilled trigger finger for something a little more relaxed. The aim of the game is to score as high as possible from a panel of crabs. Each one will assign you an individual score (ala gymnastics) and your final is the average of them all - just watch out for the final crab as he'll mark…

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles run onto the App Store

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles run onto the App Store

If you grew up in the late eighties then you've probably got a soft spot for four mutated amphibians named after famous Italian painters. Well, they're seeing something of a resurgence at the moment thanks to a new animated series from Nickolodeon and an upcoming blockbuster movie reboot. And now they're available on your iOS device in endless runner form. Based on the Nickolodeon cartoon, the game sees you choosing your favourite of the turtles and running through an endless city scape punching goons out of the way. There's plenty of fan service going on, as you'd imagine, although we're not sure about the control system, which appears to use a single tap to do everything. Still, the idea…

Dark Quest - Like Hero's Quest... but Dark!

Dark Quest - Like Hero's Quest... but Dark!

Released a couple days ago, Dark Quest looks like another streamlined roguelike for the iOS platform, but this game obviously takes its inspiration from the classic board game Hero's Quest. Filled with lots of exploration, upgrades, and a bit of humour through dialogue, this could be an entertaining experience for those who remember delving into the grided boardgame dungeons of their youth. Check out the debut trailer. [App Store Link]…

Keep off my Hill Launch Trailer (iPad only)

If you're one of those people that just can't get enough of defense game you should check out the launch trailer for Keep off my Hill, the title just released for iPad from Isopod Labs. It looks nice and colourful, with plenty to do based on having to scroll through multiple sides of your base. It's also free, so as long as there's no overly aggresive in-app purchasing, it's easy to get a hold of as well.  If you give it a go, tell us what you think in the comments.[App Store Link]…

Leviathan: Warships - A smooth trailer for an April 30th Release

Now, this upcoming release by Paradox Interactive (with a reputation for making flawed, yet interesting games) is iPad exclusive in iOS circles, but it also is getting simultaneous release on Android, PC, and Mac. Also, there is cross-platform play between all. Have a watch of one of the more entertaining trailers to come out in some time, and see if this warship title might be for you once April 30th rolls around.…

NVS Wargame - Ninja vs Samurai iPad Review

NVS Wargame - Ninja vs Samurai iPad Review

As brilliant as a concept may be, if the player can't access your game it's going to fall flat. NVS Wargame - Ninja vs Samurai is an online only strategy title that suffers from many quirks, but most crippling of all is the instability of the servers you're forced to play on. It's an odd decision on the part of the developer, especially as players can enjoy the single-player campaign without engaging in the multiplayer, however by pairing the two together (units and experience unlock…

Strategy & Tactics: World War II iPad Review

Strategy & Tactics: World War II iPad Review

Gamers who typically enjoy strategy titles invariably also enjoy the challenge that comes from seeing a mountain-sized burden of knowledge and conquering it to become masters of their virtual domain. Strategy & Tactics: World War II was once tied to the Hearts of Iron franchise - a series some strategy fans should recognize - and while the mobile title reduces the complexity significantly, it's no less opaque in its mechanics. In other words, be prepared to fail, and fail often as…
