Com2uS's Tower Defense: Lost Earth Updated With Additional Power-Ups

You may not necessarily be aware of this, but the term 'tower defense' is copyrighted. The copyright-holder is none other than Com2uS, who waited almost three years before actually cashing in on their lucrative TD trademark (serial number 3442002. Honestly.). Was it worth the wait for an 'official' tower defense on iPhone, then? Yes and no. Yes, because Tower Defense: Lost Earth is undeniably polished, full of game modes, and rewards high score seekers. No, because there's nothing really new or innovative about this particular tower defence experience. Still, we awarded it a handsome 4/5 on review, and we're stoked to see it updated by the developers with additional power-ups, includin…

Chicken Coup Remix Review

Feeling cooped up? Outfoxed? Tired of reviews full of stupid puns pertaining to the game at hand? Well we can't help you out with that last one but Chicken coop Remix by Punch Puppy Studios may just entertain you enough to chase away all the frustration. Then again, it might exacerbate it. There are two chicken coops and two different colored chickens, white and yellow. The white chickens need to be herded into the white coop, and the yellow chickens into their coop. It's self explana…

Top 3 iOS Games for October 2011

I won't lie, I like months like this - the burden of sifting through the games you've played and trying to judge each one on an individual merit to see whether it JUST pips out one game out for another can be at best tiresome, and at worst a frustrating chore as you struggle with some hair-splitting decisions. So when I get a month like this past October with its huge highlights, the only problem I have left is stopping myself from gushing too much about these titles. So, if you've got a budget or if you're just looking for the best of the best, here's the Top 3 iPhone Games for October 2011. 3. Mage Gauntlet (Rocketcat Games) $2.99 To be sure, any developer worth their salt sho…

Racer Riptide GP Now Thrashing Around Water-Filled Courses For $2.99

Wave Race-esque racer Riptide GP splashed into the App Store just last week, but it's already managed to unearth a nifty shortcut and speed straight into a sale. The game allows you to jump on the back of one of six high-powered jet skis and compete with other racers through futuristic cities, strange research facilities, and twisting canals, en route to a podium finish. If any of your opponents seem to have the upper hand, you earn a boost by pulling off some gnarly stunts, and change your enviroment mid-race using interactive triggers.  You can grab Riptide GP from the App Store for just $2.99 for a limited time.…

Eve of Impact Review

With a title like 'Eve of Impact', one gets sort of an apocalyptic vibe. The game itself does a good job of reinforcing this uneasy feeling. Earth is being bombarded by asteroids. Spaceships are carrying people to safety off-world and as the controller of the planet defense grid, you need to delay the planet's inevitable destruction to save as much of the population as possible. Essentially this is missile command. A tap on the screen will send a missile out to that location. The goal…

Bring Me Down Review

You know those physics puzzle games where you have to remove blocks to safely drop a character on the ground below without having him roll off the edge? Bring me Down is one of those games... in 3d! Does the extra dimension help or hinder? Let us find out. Each level starts with this monster trapped in a spherical cage. By tapping on the blocks he's resting on, they disappear, and then physics happens. The goal is to get the monster to the ground below (along with the two bananas as w…

Review Quarter Circle Punch By Andrew Nesvadba, 12 years, 6 months ago
Wonton 51 Review

The popularity of abstract shooters and endless titles was eventually bound to result in a developer marrying the two, with games like Phoenix by Firi Games capturing the spirit of a bullet hell shoot'em-up while still having the hook of hitting 'replay' over and over. Wonton 51 by Quarter Circle Punch takes another stab at the formula, opting for a self-aware style that adds some humor in to the mix. As with any self-respecting game invoking the early days of the arcade (as this retr…

Russian Dancing Men Review

In 1999 Japanese developer and musician Masay Matsuura, along with his company NanaOn-Sha, released Vib-Ribbon upon the world. While not garnering nearly the same attention as previous releases PaRappa the Rapper and UmJammer Lammy, it carved a niche for itself thanks to its unique approach to rhythm gaming - giving players obstacles timed to music to navigate via a semi-intuitive control scheme. Its lukewarm reception was followed up with relative silence in the rhythm game sphere as…

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and San Andreas Possibly Coming To iPhone

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and San Andreas Possibly Coming To iPhone

You know how we - and probably you - got all kinds of excited, breathless, and anxious at the news that Grand Theft Auto III: 10th Anniversary Edition was being ported to iPhone? Get ready for a similar emotional onslaught. Digital Trend's Adam Rosenberg was lucky enough to be invited deep into Rockstar's New York lair earlier this week for a hands-on preview of said open-world crime adventure on iPhone and iPad. In between running down pedestrians and admiring the character modelling, Rosenberg coaxed a tantalising admission out of one of the Rockstar reps: And yes, since you're probably wondering: It would be a 'technical challenge' to deliver mobile ports of Vice City and San Andreas,…

Reckless Racing 2 Speeding Onto the iPhone Track In December

I have yet to meet a person who dislikes Reckless Racing on iPhone. I have yet to meet a person who dislikes Lionel Messi, either. But that’s neither here, nor there. What IS important, though, is that the sequel to top-down driving sim Reckless Racing (Reckless Getaway is more a spin-off than a sequel, fact fans) will be accelerating onto the App Store pretty darn soon. Polarbit have announced that Reckless Racing 2 should be out in time for Xmas, so start updating your Christmas list forthwith. In this much-anticipated follow-up, Polarbit have tuned up the Reckless Racing engine with longer circuits, a single-player campaign, and improved artwork. While you’re counting dow…

Grab Jetpack Joyride For Free On App Store Facebook Page

Remember when id Software ran that Facebook promotion whereby RAGE HD on iPhone would go free if 100,000 peeps 'Liked' the studio's page? Well, Aussie developers Halfbrick have gone one better. If you should happen to be out social networking this afternoon, why not put that webcam down and pop across to the official App Store page. For there, you will discover riches beyond your wildest dreams. Or more accurately, Halfbrick's phenomenal endless-flying game Jetpack Joyride ready to be downloaded for absolutely zip. The star of Halfbrick's one-touch wonder, Barry Steakfries, by the way, was recently joined by Honest Phil in a major update - presumably, Barry was feeling lonely. Jetpack J…

Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation Review

If I could digress for a moment before stepping in to this review, there are times at which I wonder if parroting what already exists on larger consoles is really the way forward for iOS. While I agree that in many cases we'd otherwise not see games like this on an iDevice, at times it's hard not to feel like being a hyena tearing at the shreds of a carcass. In this way a game can feel disappointing even despite being, relatively speaking, amazing for the platform it's on. With that s…

Retro Shooter Hypership Out of Control Now Hurtling Through Space For Free

You can now grab Fun Infused Games's retro-themed space shooter Hypership Out of Control and head into space without having to spend a penny. This is all thanks to a (presumably) limited-time sale that has seen its 99c price tag removed and tossed into a virtual bin. In Hypership Out of Control, you just happen to be the pilot of a constantly accelerating starship, which is suffering from faulty brakes. Your job, then, is to steer your careering craft around asteroids, coloured blocks, space mines, and other deadly hazards. Stay alive, basically. Oh, and rack up those high scores. Apple's social gaming network Game Center is on board with a bunch of leaderboards, which provide both long…

Galactic Phantasy Review

When you first look at a game like Galaxy Pirate Adventure by Sunfish Studio Limited, it's hard not to be misled and think you're in for a Privateer-like experience set in a pirate-infested universe. The first hint is in the game's description as it clearly calls itself a 'full 3D RPG', which is literally exactly what it is. You play as the Prince of Pirates, however you've been cast out in to the 'waters' by your father (the 'King' of Pirates if you're wondering) to adventure and gro…
