Over in the sunny world of Call of Duty Mobile, we don't really need to worry about the suckers on PC who keep getting the same sloppy games each year. However, a recent update could impact what type of content we see added to CoD Mobile in 2026.

Activision recently announced that it will change the way it releases titles annually. While games will still be rushed out every year, Activision will no longer release back-to-back games in a universe. For example, we'll no longer see multiple Black Ops or Modern Warfare titles in a row, which happened the last four years.

  • 2022: Modern Warfare II
  • 2023: Modern Warfare III
  • 2024: Black Ops 6
  • 2025: Black Ops 7

Developers wrote in a blog post: "We will no longer do back-to-back releases of Modern Warfare or Black Ops games. The reasons are many, but the main one is to ensure we provide an absolutely unique experience each and every year."

In doing so, Activision is hoping that the games will become more "meaningful" and "innovative." That could very well be true if the games are more varied each year.

Of course, this means that Call of Duty Mobile may see new content in 2026. Since the app takes from new releases, we'll likely see varied weapons and maps that are not from the same world as Black Ops.

We'll have to wait for further updates to find out exactly what's in store, however.

"To be clear, the future of Call of Duty is very strong and we believe our best days are ahead of us given the depth and talent of our development teams," the blog concluded. "We have been building the next era of Call of Duty, and it will deliver precisely on what you want along with some surprises that push the Franchise and the genre forward.

"We look forward to welcoming you in, listening to you, and moving forward together."
