The creator of Call of Duty, Vince Zampella, has passed away over the weekend. 

On December 21st, Sunday, Zampella was involved in a fatal car crash on Angeles Crest Highway outside of Los Angeles. Zampella's Ferrari veered off the road, hit a concrete barrier, and caught on fire, trapping Zampella inside. According to NBC4 Investigates, Zampella died on the scene while his passenger passed away at the hospital. 

Zampella was just 55 years old. 

Vince Zampella leaves behind incredible gaming legacy

The gaming community was left heartbroken after learning of Zampella's passing. He is the co-founder of Respawn Entertainment and Infinity Ward, and created Call of Duty, Titanfall, and Apex Legends. Zampella was also leading the team working on Battlefield. 

Said EA's Development Director Jean Pierre Kellams: "Vince Zampella was not just an amazing game creator. He was also a friend. In absolute shock right now. Rest in peace to an absolute legend and giant of our industry."

Added streamer Jack "CouRage" Dunlop: "He was the greatest of all-time and an even better man. I really don’t think people understand how much he shaped the FPS genre as we know it."
