Epic Games has been in a long battle with Google but a settlement has been reached. Now, Fortnite Mobile is available on Android devices once more through the Google Play Store.
Why was Fortnite Mobile removed from phones?
In 2020, Fortnite was removed from both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store after the two companies beefed with Epic Games for finding a way to allow players to make in-app purchases without giving the companies 30% of the profit. The removal was followed by a super long legal battle.Come 2025, and Google lost its appeal to overturn a 2023 verdict that found the Google Play Store guilty of being an illegal monopoly. By November, Epic and Google agreed to settle.
Is Fortnite Mobile back on phones?
Fortnite returned to Apple's App Store in May 2025. At that time, Judge Yvonne Gonzalez ruled that Apple had to change its policies — it appealed and lost.In December, Fortnite Mobile also returned to Android devices on the Google Play Store.
On X it stated: "Fortnite is back on the Google Play Store in the U.S. following Google’s compliance with the U.S. District Court’s injunction.

Epic's CEO Tim Sweeney confirmed that the "Apple Tax is dead" in the United States following the news. He said: "This is the beginning of true, untaxed competition in payments worldwide on iOS."
While this is good news for Fortnite Mobile players, this is also a massive change for mobile gamers in general. In-app purchases will likely be cheaper since developers will get the entire payment, no longer giving up 30% to Apple and Google.
