Fortnite is testing whether the power of friendship beats guns in Kingdom Hearts collaboration

If there is one place you don’t want to find teenagers, it is anywhere, frankly. They are annoying. But certainly not in the middle of a battlefield. Yet, take a trip over to Fortnite, and you will find a certain key-wielding quartet in the firing line, and a strange moon in the sky. Kingdom Hearts has come to Fortnite.

Sora, Kairi, Roxas, and my beloved Riku are storming the stage, allowing players to grab their outfits, complete with Back Bling, Pickaxe, and Lego Fortnite style. And yes, the Pickaxe is a Keyblade. Or two, in Roxas’ case. Little show-off that he is. There are also adorable Shadow Steppers Kicks to grab. Heartless Shadow, that is, not the Hedgehog.

During battles, if you are lucky, you will stumble across the iconic Kingdom Key. Wield this, and you can unleash a string of devastating melee whacks. For a bit of range, there is also the option to call down a bolt upon your foes. 

There is nothing a good Ice Cream can’t fix, even bullet holes

Of course, you are going to get shot numerous times as you charge your foes with this key, so make sure you pick up some of the new Sea Salt Ice Creams littering the field. These tasty treats will restore both health and shields. And then you can throw the popsicle stick at someone. Probably not; I can dream.

If you want to try out the Kingdom Key, then pop into Fortnite on Saturday, 19th for the Kingdom Hearts Power Hours. Between 2 and 4 PM ET, and then 9 and 11 PM ET, everyone will start the bout with a Kingdom Key and Sea Salt Ice Cream. It is going to be glorious and slightly chaotic.

Happily, there are a few new Overrides available even if you can’t make the Power Hours. The Recovery Override will cause any enemy you or your team kill to spawn healing orbs, whilst the Level Up Override gives each of your team a Kingdom Key. Which sounds OP.

Best of all, Square can’t cancel this one! Had to get that in at least once, especially now that they are introducing characters in the main story that only have lore in the mobile game no one can access anymore! No, the Foreteller cinematics on 1.5 don’t cut it, Square! At least we have Riku here.
