Pokemon TCG Pocket introduces dual-type cards in Dual Fusion expansion
If you have ever played a TCG, you know the age-old struggle: mono decks or mixed. Sure, you get more tactical choices in a mixed deck, but if you don’t pull the resource you need, you are done. Happily for you multi-coloured fiends out there, Pokémon TCG Pocket is releasing the Dual Fusion expansion on October 29th with dual-type cards.
So far, we know of two dual-type Pokémon. The first is Mega Mewtwo X EX, after it hit the gym and bulked up instead of becoming a weird floating alien. They are a Psychic and Fighting type; however, its attack requires 3 Energy, at least 2 Psychic. Which doesn't feel very mixed; where's the Fighting bit?. It deals 100 damage, plus 40 if you have a Stadium in play.
Next is Mega Greninja EX, which is Water and Dark. However, again, its attack needs 2 Water, so why Dark? The attack is called Splash of Darkness, which is a mildly amusing combination, and deals 100 damage as well as preventing the defending Pokémon from retreating next turn.
The fact that the attacks only need one of the elements annoys me more than it should; it doesn’t feel very dual-type if I could slot Mega Greninja into a mono-Water deck with zero issue. I guess having more cards it is strong against is something. But I was expecting more cards like the upcoming Mega Dragonite EX.

They require 5 energy for Draconic Meteor, with at least 1 Water and 2 Electric. It then selects one opposing Pokémon at random and effectively explodes it with 250 damage. Rainbow Cave can help with another energy roll per turn, and with it being a Stadium, you also get that Mega Mewtwo X EX buff. Triple-energy deck, anyone? Or quadruple, I guess.
Now, do you know what makes any game better? That’s right, more stamina systems! From October 31st to December 26th, you can pull from the new Special Pack: First Partners set. This is limited to once a week with its own stamina; the pack guarantees at least a 1-star card, and it features the first partner Pokémon encountered in each of the nine regions.
To celebrate 30 years of Pokémon TCG, ouch my old bones, from October 20th, you can partake in the Pika Pika! Pikachu Missions. The overrated rodent will be around for a whole year, and by logging in for 10 days, you can enjoy an immersive card, new accessories, and a few other Pikachu cards.
Plus, there is a huge host of events to look forward to, all listed on the official website. It is an excellent time to get involved in Pokémon TCG Pocket, available on the App Store and Google Play.
