Pokémon TCG Pocket commits the world's biggest sin with Mega Rising set
For the longest time since it launched, Pokémon TCG Pocket was digging itself a pretty sizeable hole with some greedy decisions in my eyes. Then, recently, they had a pretty big redemption arc, until now! The Mega Rising set has launched, and I need to launch a formal investigation as to why my Mega Lucario was not included!
In fact, it is strange that they named it Mega Rising, as there are barely any Mega Pokémon here. There are about 200 unique cards in the set, and only six of these are Mega evolutions. I mean, sure, don’t drown us in them, but come on, only six? And split across three booster sets.
Disappointing, but let’s take a look at a few of these.
Mega Ampharos ex is sporting 210 HP, and deals 100 damage for three energy. Even more, one of your opponents' benched Pokémon is chosen randomly three times and dealt 20 damage per pick. Or, head to Mega Gyrados ex instead. Not only is this 210 HBP behemoth a Stage 1, for four energy it will deal 140 damage and discard the top 3 cards of your opponent’s deck. This move doesn’t even need you to discard any energy. Plus, with Water's proven energy ramp, this is a broken Pokémon.

Despite no Mega Lucario, there is a card I personally like; Jolteon ex. Their ability causes your opponents' Pokémon to take 20 damage whenever an energy is added to them from the Energy Zone. Plus, it has an 80 damage move for two energy. Finally, you can pair this with the new Eevee, whose ability lets you evolve it on the first turn, or whatever turn you play it. Throw them down turn one, and your opponent might have a tough road ahead.
In terms of support, how about a ruddy great hammer? The Hitting Hammer lets you discard an energy from your opponent's Active Pokémon if you flip a coin and get two heads. Or pick up May, who lets you draw 2 Pokémon from your deck, at a cost of shuffling the same number from your hand into your deck. Great if you draw a heavy evolution hand.
However you choose to play, just remember, no Mega Lucario is a crime. Download Pokémon TCG Pocket from the App Store and Google Play now to enjoy the new set.
