Supercell is shutting a game for the first time with the death of Squad Busters
If you hear the name Supercell, then you will no doubt immediately think of maybe Clash Royale or Clash of Clans. One of the clashes, anyway. What you won’t of heard about, though, is them closing one of their games, until now that is.
After a year of life, Squad Busters is closing.
Despite their best efforts of getting the likes of Chris Hemsworth and Christina Ricci in their launch adverts, it appears Squad Busters did not meet Supercell’s expectations. Or, as they put it, “The game did not meet the high expectations that both you, our players, and we at Supercell have for our games."
It's always the players' expectations that get the blame.
Happily, however, the closure is not causing any redundancies, it seems. Supercell says the developers will move to work on new or existing games. It is always a concern that a flop will cause some job losses, so I am glad it doesn’t seem to be the case here. So, let’s look at the mechanics of the shutdown.

In-app purchases have been disabled, and if you made any purchases in 2025, you can request a transfer of that value to another Supercell game. Not as good as a refund, but a damn classy move when they could have just gone “no, that’s ours, you spent it on us."
Just a note, the window opens November 10th until the end of 2025, so don’t dally.
Additionally, from November 10th, you can head to the Supercell Store and claim free bundles based on your Squad Busters playtime. These or for most of their other games. Plus, the exclusive Squad Busters-themed cosmetics will be brought back if you want to take one into another Supercell game for a reminder.
This has the be the way to close a game, honestly, I am impressed. And speaking of the closure, there is no solid date as of yet. There will be one final update in December, and then the doors will shut for good before the middle of last year.
Interestingly, this comes at the same time that Supercell's popular esports titles have their championships at DreamHack Atlanta.
So, if you want to give Squad Busters a go before the end, head to the App Store or Google Play.
