Free Fire's Esports World Cup 2026 tournament ends in a spectacular showdown

It goes without saying that winning an esports tournament would be tremendously difficult work. Going head-to-head with another of the world's best teams? No matter how good you are, that’s scary. Now what if you had to see off 11 of the world’s best teams to win? Well, that's what Free Fire tasked its competitors to do at the Esports World Cup 2026.

In a final match that saw four teams eligible to win, the match came down to a decisive duel between LYON, LOUD, AG AL, and Team Apex Gaming. Even worse, both LYON and AG AL had Champion Rush Point Eligibility, meaning a 1st place for either guarantees the championship. Yet, some superb range play, some luck, and a bit of cowardly avoidance led to the win.

Team Apex Gaming was the first to fall, with LYON crushing their dreams before the final safe zone. Then, as the circle continued to close, the final three-way battle between LYON, AG AL, and LOUD commenced, where they emerged victorious and snatched the championship in first place. You gotta feel for AG AL, being within touching distance. 

Noticeably missing from this melee was defending champions EVOS Divine, who surprisingly crashed out in 10th place. Even if they had competed, though, they would have had a hard time against LYON, who threatened to run rampant all tournament. For a $300k top prize, 1,000 Club championship points, and a place in the Free Fire World Series Global Finals, you'd play your heart out too, I reckon.

One particular highlight for them was Game 5, where they set a competition record for points scored. They grabbed 45 total points, with 33 eliminations, and 12 placement points from getting the first-place “Booyah”. Incidentally, I hate that as a winning phrase. Don’t know why, anyway.

Leading the charge in an impressive finals, Benjamín “Gamezking” Pérez was named the Sony MVP. He racked up 60 eliminations and 71 knockdowns across the competition, which is no mean feat. You can’t call yourself “Gamezking” without having the skills to back it up. A well-deserved crown all around.
