This game gives 'button masher' a whole new meaning

This game gives 'button masher' a whole new meaning

Button mashers often have a bad reputation in games due to controller wear and the feeling that it's a cheap gimmick used to prolong gameplay because the developer couldn't think of anything more clever. It's rare though that not only would a game make button mashing look interesting, but that it would base its core mechanic around it. The Wunderlich brothers and their company RAWR! Interactive are releasing Count to a Billion, where you have ninety seconds to tap furiously on multiple multiplier pads in order to reach that elusive number. This trailer will explain it better than i could... The game is due for release in July, and should be a unique experience if nothing else. In…

E3 Trailer for upcoming physics puzzler, Jumpster

G5 and Vogat are showing off their new physics puzzle game Jumpster this week with a brand new trailer. Take a look for yourself: While it looks to use the same physics flinging formula that so many games have adopted in the wake of the success of Angry Birds, the video showcases not only a vibrant alien world, but interesting mechanics like portals and UFOs. The game is slated for release in July so keep on the lookout for our review.…

First Look: Forma8

This is truly a first look. More information on this mobile adventure game should drop this week at E3 (and we have contacted the developer for additional info), but for now all we have are all the screenshots available over at their site. What strikes me is the evocative alien landscapes, that are quite reminiscent of Another World. If this game is drawing their main inspiration from that cinematic platforming classic, we should also expect a clean user interface, situational controls, and a load of atmosphere. We'll present you with more on this title as details are revealed to us. [Forma.8 Website - Forma.8 Facebook]…

Madfinger games, developer of the third person shooter Shadowgun, which gained a favorable review from us here at Appspy, is proud to announce their new first person zombie shooter, 'Dead Trigger'. Here's the official E3 trailer: Promising a high end graphics and physics engine, evolving enemy AI, a host of weapons and traps, and country-based leaderboards, this is looking like a quality handheld shooter experience. No release date has been scheduled as of yet, but we will keep you updated as information comes out.…

Pocket God Episode 45 - Dance Dance Execution

Who would have thought that all these years later, Pocket God would still be getting amusing and entertaining updates? For those of you that wanted more dancing with your pygmys, the latest update includes a Dance Dance Revolution mini-game. Failure leads to death by disco ball so you'd best have your finger rhythm down pat (unless you wish to suck up some helium and hear sound clips from the infamous David after Dentist youtube video). The latest episode of the Pocket God youtube series will show off not only the new game, but the new in-app purchases of sweet dance moves and theme song by Parry Gripp.…

Fluid Physics-Puzzler Feed Me Oil Currently Free To Download

Fluid Physics-Puzzler Feed Me Oil Currently Free To Download

Chillingo's top-notch physics-puzzler Feed Me Oil is currently available free of charge, marking the first time the game's been discounted since its June 2011 release. Taking aesthetic inspiration from 2D Boy's superb World of Goo, Feed Me Oil has you placing barriers and objects in order to steer liquid oil around each of its surreal stages. 'Why am I doing that?' you might reasonably ask. Well, it's because each level contains a nightmarish monster, and it's your job to feed the beastie its liquid lunch. Obviously. If that sounds odd, that's probably because Feed Me Oil is an odd game, but it's also smart, challenging, and blessed with some fantastically fluid physics. It may wear its…

Friday News Wrap-Up 18 May 2012

After too much faffing about due to sickness I'm rearing and ready to go so lets skip the nonsense and dive right in to the Friday News Wrap-Up for the 18th of May, 2012. Republique - Reaches Kickstarter Goal! With the last few months being an absolute minefield of developers trying to self-fund projects, it's hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. In the least there's no harm in putting money down on something you think you'll enjoy and Republique is just such a project. Despite the limited demonstration of what's on offer in the game's unique adventure-esque title, it's clear this isn't your ordinary throw-away Arcade title and definitely something the iOS platform deserves.…

Side-On Racer MotoHeroz Goes Free For a Limited Time

Side-On Racer MotoHeroz Goes Free For a Limited Time

RedLynx's bouncy side-scrolling racer MotoHeroz is currently available as an App Store freebie, reduced from its usual price of 99c to absolutely nothing. Handing you control of a cartoonishly proportioned truck, MotoHeroz has you driving through its 2D levels in pursuit of the fastest time possible. Upgrades and power-ups enliven that simple concept, but really it's the presence of 'ghost' opponents that'll have you replaying levels over and over, and desperately trying to shave milliseconds off of your time. That kind of trial and error gameplay may not be for everyone, but MotoHeroz's nuanced physics and intuitive controls make it an accessible racer with plenty of depth. A very solid…

Arcade Shooter Fireball SE Reduced To 99c

Arcade Shooter Fireball SE Reduced To 99c

Fireball SE, the arcade shooter which doesn't actually let you shoot anything, has had its price cut from $1.99 to 99c. While piloting a small defenceless craft, your primary concern in Fireball SE is survival. But, making that goal rather more difficult  for you are the swarms of enemy ships hell-bent on your destruction. You'll have to steer your fireball craft past these deadly foes, deftly weaving between the oncoming hordes until you can activate one of the level's fearsome bombs. Your craft is immune to these awesome explosives, which is jolly fortunate considering you'll soon be chaining explosions to create screen-clearing booms. Here at AppSpy, we loved Fireball SE's finely…

Side-Scrolling RPG Swordigo Free On the App Store

Side-scrolling RPG Swordigo is currently available for nowt on the App Store, marking the first time the game's price has been discounted since its March release. In this 2D adventure, you are cast as a young hero embarking on a quest to bring peace to the land. How novel. Along the way, you'll bash monsters with increasingly powerful weaponry, unlock fearsome magical abilities, and hoover up XP like there's no tomorrow. (There is, by the way.) Evoking the feel of the classic adventure RPGs of yore, Swordigo boasts around ten hours of swashbuckling, puzzle-solving gameplay. Here at AppSpy, we thought that Swordigo was a charming romp, with heaps of variety, a relentless pace, and taut c…

Friday News Wrap-Up 11 May 2012

It's great to be back in the saddle, even if I haven't fully recovered. Thankfully not too much was missed over the last couple weeks. Despite the lack of news amends must be made and there's a bit more meat to the review and picks of the week as a result. So, lets not dilly-dally and jump straight in to the Friday News Wrap-Up for the 11th of May, 2012. Ascension: Storm of Souls - Top Deck Builder Gets BetterIt has been a while since AppSpy first had the chance to play Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer, but much like the board game it proved to be seriously addictive and a lot of fun. Since then an expansion has been added to the game, but more importantly, Storm of Souls, a f…

FPS Classic Wolfenstein 3D Classic Platinum Currently Free To Download

Wolfenstein 3D Classic Platinum, the updated port of id Software's 1992 FPS classic, is currently available as a free download from the App Store. Playing as the suggestively named B.J. Blazkowicz, a captured US agent who's being held in Castle Wolfenstein, you simply have to escape alive. Yep, that's the objective, folks. But, it won't be easy. The Castle is crawling with nasty Nazi guards, vicious attack dogs, and terrifying undead supersoliders. Should you manage to fight your way past these horrors, you'll eventually have to battle robo-Hitler in a climactic boss battle. All historically accurate, of course. It may be a little long in the tooth (Wolfenstein celebrates its 20th anniv…
