Dropchord Teaser Trailer

Dropchord Teaser Trailer

So Doublefine, the makers of games such as Psychonauts and Brutal Legend have an iOS game on the way. It's called Dropchord. All we know about it is that it's a rhythm game, and a teaser trailer was just released. And here it is! The trailer just confuses me further honestly, but Doublefine do have a good track record for unique games so we'll have to wait and see when more information is released.…

Le Vamp Review

Le Vamp Review

Oh the woes of being a vampire child. You want to go outside and play... but you're a vampire! In Le Vamp, it's up to you as the player to protect the titular tike as he frolics through the forest, and by frolic, I mean evading capture by an angry mob of villagers, staying nourished on delicious blood pigs, avoiding the sunlight, and not getting hamstrung by all the other nasty things that lurk with-in. It's a harder job than it sounds. Every obstacle has a gesture assigned to it. Fli…

FFV heading to the App Store

FFV heading to the App Store

It looks like Square Enix is continuing its retro assault on tablet and smartphone gaming with the news that Final Fantasy V is set for release on iOS devices. The news was broken over at Japanese site FF Reunion, which showed scans from a Japanese gaming mag featuring an advert for the game. The iOS release is set to be based on the GBA version of FFV, and will feature updated 2D graphics. First release in 1992 for the SNES, the game tells the story of a group of adventurers who are trying to stop a demon from being released from a sealed realm. There's some amnesia, turn based battling, and silly names thrown in for good measure too. Plus you can customise your characters thanks to an in…

Collapsticks Review

You know those puzzles where you have a bunch of matchsticks arranged in a particular pattern, then by simply moving one or more you can create something entirely different? Yeah, Collapsticks isn't anything like that (sorry about the swerve), but it's still a puzzler with fairly cut and dry solutions. This last part is something to note given that the game uses a fairly realistic physics engine to handle collisions. However, with the board being preset with all the pieces in place, t…

Unmechanical Review

Unmechanical Review

The development of Unmechanical has undergone several stages, with the first of these being a ten minute or so title created as part of an educational program in Sweden. From there it went on to become a full-fledged puzzler for the PC on the Steam platform, and now almost a year after that we have the iOS version. You play as a lost and somewhat confused unnamed robot stuck in a vast underground network of machinery. With nothing more than your wits and a small tractor beam you'll ne…

Ryan Seacrest announces Draw Something 2

Ryan Seacrest announces Draw Something 2

Zynga and OMGPop have announced that Draw Something 2, the sequel to the smash hit game everyone stopped playing about a year ago, will be released in the not too distant future. And for some reason they announced it via Ryan Seacrest. Seacrest took to twitter to post a picture he'd created using the new app, and shortly afterwards OMGPop CEO Dan Porter replied to that tweet, thanking Seacrest and confirming that the new game is on the way. So far there are no details save what was included in those brief missives. Although according to Porter Draw Something 2 will feature new ways to “draw and connect”. Maybe you can use your elbows to doodle this time. The original Draw Some…

Stargate SG-1: Unleashed Ep 1 Review

Stargate SG-1: Unleashed Ep 1 Review

I have a deep, dark secret to reveal. Actually it's not all that dark, and possibly not that secret to those who know me - I like the Stargate TV series... So much so I was worried it would be a problem coming in to reviewing Arkalis Interactive's adventure title 'Stargate SG-1: Unleashed', but after the initial geeky glow wore off, what was left was a game worthy of the name, but still in need of improvement. Unleashed takes its cues from the Telltale Games playbook of designing a mo…

Exclusive Screenshots of ScooterBoy from Modka Games

Industry veteran Chris Blackbourn has branched out from his star-studded career of working with major developers and has teamed up with artist Christian Bravery to form the Indie studio Modka Games. First off the block is an endless runner style title called 'ScooterBoy' where the player needs to swipe to go faster. So far the game is looking pretty sharp and with any luck we'll pick up some more footage of the game after they've demonstrated the game at GDC. For now check out some exclusive screenshots and a teaser demonstrating some of the artwork in motion via background parallaxing. Via Modka Games and Modka Games Facebook Page…

Mighty Dungeons iOS Port

Mighty Dungeons iOS Port

When viewing the trailer of Mighty Dungeons, it starts off looking like a generic iOS RPG, the kind we've seen a hundred times before... but then as you start to watch the gameplay, nostalgia struck me. The way the map is laid out, and the way you travel through it reminds me of days spent playing the board game Hero Quest. This alone makes the game worth a play for me, and it should scratch that dungeon crawler itch for other RPG fans as well. The Android version is currently out, and the iOS version should be released soon, but no definitive date as of yet.…

Chopper Mike Releasing this Thursday

Chopper Mike Releasing this Thursday

Former SEGA Employee who goes by VAMflax is releasing his own game on the iOS this Thursday called Chopper Mike. It's a gem collecting helipcopter obstacle course that looks kind of banal in the trailer until the red sections kick in about halfway through... As long as the controls are tight enough to allow for the manoevering shown in the trailer, this should be quite enjoyable as you weave through the pillars in the shortest time possible.…

Plasma Sky hits the App Store

Plasma Sky hits the App Store

If you like your bullet hell shooters to be retro tinged, neon coloured, and full of explosive power ups, then today is your lucky day, because Plasma Sky has blasted its way on to the App Store and it's looking pretty sweet. With eighty levels to blast your way through, the game offers plenty of content, as well as some gorgeous graphics that ape the look of classics such as Geometry Wars. Throw in some huge bosses and a hardcore mode and you're left with a pretty impressive package. There are two control choices, either tilt or touch, and leaderboards to creep your way up in order to show your friends you're the king of bullets, hell, and shooting. Which is exactly the sort of thing we l…

NightSky™ Review

It's amazing how controls can affect a game. Dave played Nightsky on the PC, and while using the arrow keys to move the orb was adequate, there was something lacking, and the whole experience didn't really leave a lasting impression. Now we have the iOS port, and with the addition of tilt controls (as well as other options), this atmospheric simple physics journey starts to really shine. The game starts with the player finding a mysterious orb on the beach. As you would, he takes the…

Ridiculous Fishing - A Tale of Redemption Review

Ridiculous Fishing - A Tale of Redemption Review

Ridiculous Fishing is kind of the iOS gaming equivalent of a super group. It's created by Super Crate Box's Vlambeer, Unify and Bit Pilot's Zach Gage, and Greg Wohlwend of Hundreds fame. Quite a team for a simple little game about fishing, but then Ridiculous Fishing isn't really about fishing, it's about redemption. If that premise sounds a little ridiculous to you, I think that's the point. We've played this type of 2D fishing game before. You cast your line with a tap, and then it…

App Wrap Up (Week ending 15th March, 2013)

Hey hey readers, and welcome to your favourite regular feature on Appspy, the App Wrap Up! We got a bunch of new trailers for you of games you might have missed but look like they have something interesting to offer. Without further ado, let us begin!   Sling it! (Greg Lobanov) Not only does this game have a delightful collection of sound effects, but it's a novel use of the flinging mechanic. As long as it's easy to switch between moving around the screen and slingshotting the enemies, this could be a lot of fun.[App Store Link]   oOo (mELTINGsKYsTUDIOS) The trailer really doesn't give you a good idea of what the gameplay entails, but it looks relaxing, and I like how it…

Keep rolling, rolling, rolling, rolling

There have been a few games that look to take up the mantle of Marble Madness / Super Monkey Ball esque gameplay. With the tilt functionality on the iPhone, you think there'd be a lot more. Ah well, Mazement is releasing on April 4th and has you rolling around, navigating labyrinths, and freeing your brethren. Have a look at the trailer.…
