She-Ra turns up in He-Man
If you thought there wasn't enough girl power in He-Man: The Most Powerful Game In The Universe, then you're in luck, because the latest update to the game brings with it everyone's favourite princess of power, She-Ra. As well as letting you play as He-Man's twin sister, the new update adds different skins for the menus, and two new levels designed with the alter ego of Princess Adora in mind. We weren't the greatest fans of the game when it came out, but it's still an enjoyable, if ocassionally frustrating, little side scrolling brawler. So if you like your cartoon violence performed by a lady rather than a chap, you could do a lot worse than heading over to the App Store and grabbing th…
Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour Review
Gameloft's Modern Combat series has gone from strength to strength and the fourth title, Zero Hour, steps things up once again. Unfortunately there are also strangely archaic hold-overs being dragged in its wake, preventing the big-console inspired game from being an all-time classic. The hold-over I speak of is the AI. By now fans of the series have come to appreciate, and maybe even love the way Gameloft have pitched their controls, giving players access to tight, action-packed leve…
Watch The Video ReviewFans of Horror Games Have a Release to look Forward to this Week
Some of the scariest games are those where you have no weapons, and have to survive by your wits against whatever creepy creature of darkness is trying to do you in. Now personally I can't play any game with horror elements as it affects me too greatly, but for those that enjoy a good spook, The Woods is released on December 7th. Have a look at the trailer. Unfortunetely those with an older iPhone than the iPhone 4 are out of luck, but as a horror experience, it looks plenty atmospheric, and should be a blast... if you like that sort of thing.…
Motor is Blasting onto the App Store today
Conjuring up memories of games like Twisted Metal, Motorblast combines racing plus shooting, and looks pretty nice doing it. Have a look at the trailer! [App Store Link]…
Boulder Dash®-XL™ Review
The original Bourder Dash is one of those games that most people who played games in the 80s and early 90s should be very familiar with. Not just that it was ported to every system imaginable, but because there were a million knock-offs as well. In the end, it was the same simple game. Walk around in the dirt, gather gems and avoid getting crushed by the boulders once you moved under them, thus triggering a rockslide. The levels were often part reflex action game, and part puzzle, as y…
Watch The Video ReviewMetal Gear Solid Social Ops hits Japanese App Store
Konami and Gree's Metal Gear Solid Social Ops has snuck onto the Japanese App Store, bringing with it plenty of card based stealthy espionage action. As you'd expect from Gree, the game is a tactical card battler that takes situations and characters from the Metal Gear universe and pits them against one another. You need to build up your deck of heroes in order to take down enemies that range from single soldiers to multiple bipedal tanks. All in a day's work really. There's no word yet on when or if the game will get a worldwide release, but with the popularity of the Metal Gear series worldwide, and the pick up and play nature of card battlers, we can't imagine why it won't come out els…
Freeze! Review
There haven't been too many, but there's something enjoyable about games that stick you in small curved level, and ask you to use the iPhone's tilt controls and the power of physics to get the character you control to safety. Freeze is the latest of these, and it comes to us wrapped in a 50s monster movie shell. It certainly adds an amount of mood and character to the game, but the big question is of course, how does it play? The answer to that questions is. “adequately”.…
Watch The Video ReviewEndless Road Review
Maybe it's jaded memory talking, but there's really not many good things that come to mind when talking about the arcade driving classic Outrun. Perhaps the aspect that stands out the most though is the decision making process in which path you took each leg of the race. While this had no real bearing on the gameplay, a change of environment is always a welcome addition in any game, and it is this exact mechanic that resurfaces in Endless Road... though any other comparisons to Outrun…
Watch The Video ReviewNanomites
Ok, so it's not the first use of this mechanic, and it won't be the last, but i think using touch gestures to fence off these creatures is pretty neat. It's similar to the game Qix, but you get to separate expressive nano creatures. Take a look at the trailer. The game is being released on December 12th.…
Shardlands Review
A lot of games start you out with either a splash page of introductory context or a movie to set up the scene. Shardlands throws you right into the thick of it straight away. Your character Dawn wakes up in a strange alien world. Where is she? How did she get there? These are pertinent questions, but surprisingly not all that pressing. This game is of a slower pace, where exploration and evasion are the order of the day. The big questions can wait. And to explore this foreign landscap…
Watch The Video ReviewPong®World Review
There's a small backstory to Pong World by Atari and zGames. To celebrate the game's 40h anniversary, Atari sought out Indie developers to update the classic arcade game, and the end result is a fantastic concept that gives the game a shufflepuck-like spin by giving the player direct control over the action. However a great idea can only take you so far when it's smothered by a relentless freemium model of almost endless monotonous gameplay, and design decisions that hamper the gamepl…
Watch The Video ReviewModern Combat 4 arrives on Thursday
The next installment in Gameloft's Call of Duty inspired Modern Combat series, subtitled Zero Hour, will be dramatically blasting its way onto the App Store on Thursday. Android gamers will have to wait a little longer to get their hands on the game, with Gameloft stating that the game should be available "shortly after" on the Google powered devices. Although Gameloft's track record on Android ports means not holding your breath for it is advisable. There's no word on a specific price yet, but Gameloft has revealed that the game will be a premium release, so something around $4.99 shouldn't be too far off the mark. With a strong single player campaign, new multiplayer modes, and some of…
Sky Gamblers: Storm Raiders Review
Storm Raiders by Atypical Games and Revo Solutions has been given a huge visual overhaul, giving the Sky Gamblers series exactly what it needed to remain the best in show. Considering previous titles had almost perfected flight simulator gameplay for the iOS platform, pairing the game up with famous locations, rendered in gorgeous detail and polished with high resolution textures makes this a must-have all on is own. However, leaving the review there would skip over important details,…
Watch The Video ReviewSponsored Feature: IntenseGames Limited on Infinity Run
It's hard to stand out from the crowd - especially when you're a platformer on the App Store. IntenseGames Limited believes its latest title, Infinity Run, has enough fresh and novel elements to make an impact in a highly competitive genre, though. We had an opportunity recently to sit down and chat to Alexander Kutehov, project manager of Infinity Run. Among other things, Alexander revealed more about the aforementioned unique gameplay elements, how much work went into the touchscreen controls, and what's planned in terms of updates for the game. Oh, and whether Android gamers can look forward to a bespoke version of the game. AppSpy: What does Infinity Run offer that peopl…
