Fist of Awesome turns to Kickstarter

Fist of Awesome turns to Kickstarter

Nicoll Hunt, developer of the rather special Hard Lines, has turned to Kickstarter for a final push to get his next game, Fist of Awesome, finished off. The game sees you taking the role of Tim Burr, a Lumberjack who finds his house burned down and his family vanished. Cue time travel, side-scrolling, and an awful lot of bear punching. There's also a chiptune soundtrack provided by Echolevel. With a classic beat 'em up feel, a unique look, and plenty of character, Fist of Awesome certainly has the goods to stand out from the crowd in the App Store. And Hunt has a pedigree too, having worked for a number of AAA developers before finding success on his own with Hard Lines. You can check out…

SpinCraft Review

Pyp has one more chance to be a successful galactic pizza boy, otherwise he's out of a job and out of luck. Grab your spinny pizza delivery spin thingy, and get ready for some 3D platforming and gem collection. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you... Spincraft. Now is the game worthy of such a grand introduction? Is any game really? Not by a long shot! This doesn't mean that Spincraft is a bad game though. Unpolished may be a better turn of phrase. Each level has you picking up thre…

Episode 4 of The Walking Dead creeps onto iOS

The penultimate episode of TellTale's point and click adventure based around the award winning comic series has finally shuffled onto iOS devices. The game follows apocalypse survivor Lee ands a ragtag band of other humans as they make their way through zombie infested territory, heading for Atlantic City. If you've already bought the full game on the App Store for $14.99, the new episode should be available for download right now. If you're paying as you go for the zombie adventure, it'll set you back $4.99. We gave the first episode of the game a 4 when we reviewed it earlier in the year, praising its tension and the way your conversations really had an affect on the world.…

Knights of Pen & Paper Review

Knights of Pen & Paper Review

Knights of Pen & Paper is funnily enough two games in one. On one hand, you have a pretty old school, turn based, D&D inspired, grind heavy, dungeon crawling RPG. On the other, the presentation takes one step back, and puts you in control of the players at the table, playing the old school, turn based, D&D inspired, grind heavy, dungeon crawling RPG. It's an approach that does a lot to lend a certain amount of charm to the retro style pixel graphics and music, but it might…

Rovio's space faring spin off should be in an App Store near you right now, bringing with it plenty of Star Wars flavoured, physics fuelled fun. Starring birdified versions of your favourite Star Wars characters, the game follows the basic Angry Birds template, but throws in some new twists as well. You can buy the game now for just $0.99, and we've embedded the final trailer below so you can see how the two universes blend together.…

iBomber Attack Review

iBomber Attack Review

The previous iBomber game was a rather standard Tower Defence affair. Not wanting to rest on their laurels it seems, developers Cobra Mobile have switched genres to deliver a top down tank driving, enemy shooting, and vehicle exploding experience. The question is how long is driving around war-torn maps destroying everything in sight enjoyable, and the answer to that question really rests on the player. Let's explore further. Each mission has a series of primary and secondary objectiv…

Smartglass turns up on iOS

Smartglass turns up on iOS

Smartglass, Microsoft's attempt to bring second screen functionality to the Xbox 360 has finally landed on the App Store, a couple of weeks after it made it to Android devices. While it may have taken a while. it looks like the iOS version of the app brings with it everything that makes the Android one so interesting. Not only can you play around with your avatar, you can hook your device up to your console and have it fed information about the compatible game you're playing or the movie you're watching. It's certainly an interesting idea, and while there's not much cross-content available at the moment, but hopefully more intuitive and innovative uses for the app will spring forth in d…

Totem Runner Review

Totem Runner Review

Credit where due, Totem Runner by Yagoda Productions and Chillingo isn't just a beautiful game, it's a beautiful concept too. Despite joining the throng of auto-runners already available, the primarily passive play style, combined with tightly designed stages, make it a refreshing casual distraction. We're jumping ahead though, so lets get back to basics. You play as a mystic (with distinctly Mayan overtones) who is braving the darkness sweeping the world. By harnessing the power of l…

Top 3 iOS Games for October 2012

Toplist By Andrew Nesvadba, 11 years, 5 months ago
Top 3 iOS Games for October 2012

For many, October means little more than 'the month before the AAA titles release'. While this is certainly true for most other platforms, the App Store is still churning out title after title, with many proving to be extremely entertaining (if not downright insanely addictive). So lets check out the month that was with AppSpy's Top 3 iOS Games for October, 2012. Girls Like Robots (Adult Swim Popcannibal) $2.99 Univ.I've learned many things from Girls Like Robots by Popcannibal and Adult Swim; for instance girls apparently love robots, while robots don't mind girls, but hate being trapped by them... OK maybe that's the only thing that really stands out, but darn it there's so much…

App Wrap Up (Tuesday Edition, 6th November 2012)

Hey Hey Appspy readers! It's Dave here with another installment of the App Wrap Up! Tuesday the 6th is sure a big day. Oh yes there's that important election going on over in the United States of America (whereever that is), but over here in Australia, not only is it the Melborne cup horse race, but the lotto is up to one hundred million dollars tonight. Guess who didn't buy a ticket? This guy. As always we want to stress that we're just posting the trailers of games that look interesting that we don't have time to review, and all our impressions are based on these trailers. If you have played these games, or decide to based on what you see here, please let us know in the comments. Let's ge…

Karateka heading to iOS devices this month

Jordan Mechner might be best known for his work on Prince of Persia, but the legendary game creator has a pretty impressive and varied back catalogue as well. We've already seen an iOS version of his point and click adventure The Last Express, and now we're being treated to an updated edition of his classic beat 'em up Karateka. While the screens on show here are from the home console version, it's likely that the iOS port is going to do just as much justice to the redesigned fighter as its home based brethren. Described as a "rhythm based story-fighter" in the press release, Karateka is an update rather than a straight remake, but still sees you battling foes in an attempt to free your…

Atari Outlaw™ Review

Atari Outlaw™ Review

Atari sure now how to hold on to an idea. Outlaw has been kicking around since 1976 and while the original was more of a reaction tester, the iOS update has kept things simple by returning to the classic gallery shooter genre. Enemies slide on in to position, either from the side or from behind some cover, and slowly take aim before firing volleys of shots at you until you either keel over or shoot them down. As fast as your six-shooter may be you'll need to move up to higher caliber…
