Monster Hunter Freedom Unite for iOS is coming to the US App Store

Capcom’s Monster Hunter series has always been popular in Japan, but has struggled to make the transition to western markets. Now, having been out in its home territory for some time, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite for iOS is making its way to to other markets. Monster Hunter is an apt title for a series that has you hunt, trap, and kill monsters for the valuable materials they offer. These can then be crafted to form more powerful equipment in order to hunt larger creatures. The satisfying feedback loop this provides is further enhanced by the multiplayer aspect, in which hunting larger game requires you to work as a team - all fulfilling different roles in the hunt. The series' pop…

Tony Hawk's Shred Session is coming to iOS this summer

Activision’s Tony Hawk series defined skating games for most of the 2000s. Now, over a decade later, the company is bringing a new instalment of the series to the iPhone and iPad in the form of Tony Hawk's Shred Session, a free-to-play lane-based autorunner. As a lane-based endless game, Tony Hawk's Shred Session looks pretty standard. Swiping left or right shifts your skater between lanes to collect coins and avoid obstacles. Where Shred Session changes things up is its trick system. Ramps and rails in your path allow you to perform all manner of grinds and jumps to earn more cash, and generally look cool. The game will feature two game modes: Shred Sessions and Survival. Shred Ses…

Harmonix announces music-powered auto-runner Record Run

Rock Band developer Harmonix has announced its new free-to-play runner, Record Run, is expected to hit iOS in May. Revealed at PAX East, Record Run appears at first glance to be a pretty standard runner. Where the game differs from other runners on the App Store is that you can import your own music to generate levels, with the song's beat dictating the pace. Once you've completed a level you can share your highscore with the world, and give other players the chance to purchase and download the song to challenge your leaderboard dominance. In his PAX East panel, Harmonix’s studio head Alex Rigopulos said that Record Run is just one of several “very different" mobile gam…

Dual Survivor Review

Dual Survivor Review

Playing Dual Survivor is the gaming equivalent of being punched in the stomach by someone who claims to be your friend. And, like the assualted party in that metaphor, it will leave you wondering if you somehow deserved it. But, even as your find yourself asking the question, you will realise that it's really the game which is to blame. This oddly schizophrenic sensation is deliberate. The game demands an equal split of your mental energies. You have to navigate two seperate…

Superb puzzle sequel The Room Two is finally coming to iPhone this Thursday

Fireproof Games's puzzle hit The Room Two arrived on the iPad a little over a month ago. However, starting this Thursday, iPhone owners will also be able to unlock the game's mechanical mysteries, when the iPhone version of The Room Two appears on the App Store. Like its predecessor, The Room Two bowled us over when it came to the iPad last December, thanks to its atmospheric visuals, creepy audio, and diverse puzzles. However, while the eerie sequel retains the weathered, spooky environments that were a trademark of the original game, the game's puzzle-box based conundrums operate on a notably grander scale. How grand, you ask? Check out the glowing video review below for the a…

LIMBO Game Review

There's a recurring set piece in Limbo which involves a spider. You're making your way through the grey fog, plodding towards the next jump or physics puzzle, when a set of spindly legs hove into view behind you. You can't run especially fast, but the spider is in no hurry. A rising terror creeps up your back as you push forward, desperate to escape the advancing arachnid's hairy, stabbing limbs. If you don't think fast, a grisly death awaits you. You run. You jump. You hope. You'll e…
