Clash of Clans looks to update ranked mode, Legend League, Ore economy, and more

Clash of Clans is getting some big updates to boost engagement. This Town Hall is meant to make up for the past few updates, which were met with criticism from the mobile gaming community.

"We recognize that overall strategic diversity has not been as healthy as either you or we would have liked. When certain troops or equipment become too dominant, viable options narrow. Over time, that reduces what makes the game interesting," devs wrote.

"That is why you have seen us act more quickly and more frequently with balance changes. In a game as deep as Clash, balance is never finished. We will not always get every decision perfect immediately, but we are committed to improving the overall health of the meta over time."

Meta changes in Clash of Clans

Meteor Golem became very dominant after Town Hall 18, causing devs to "step in." And fast. Those changes saw overbearing strategies die off and Life Gem see a resurgence.

"We are closer to where we want to be. However, there are still outliers and room to improve variety. Our approach moving forward is steady tuning," devs wrote. "The goal is not to erase strategies. It is to create space for more of them."

Based on hit rates between Town Hall 18 and now, devs are monitoring the Dragon Duke. It's currently making quite the impact, but is it too big of an impact? Devs will find out.

They wrote: "As always, shifts in balance and progression can open up opportunities for different strategies to return or evolve over time."

Another thing devs hope to balance is gameplay across skill levels. Sometimes a change will positively impact casuals and disrupt pro play, or vice versa.

"Our responsibility is to look at both," they wrote. "In general, we aim to balance for the overall health of the game across all segments. However, when extreme outliers emerge in either general play or top-level competition, we may act specifically to address that environment."

They don't only balance for the pros, but they don't ignore them, alright?

Ranked Mode, Legend League, Clan War Leagues (CWL) and the Ore Economy

These competitive systems have been discussed a lot recently, so devs are making some changes.

Ranked Mode is getting some smaller changes. The previous update made the experience "less grindy" and "easier to engage." The next step? Making Ranked easier to understand and feel more satisfying. At the same time, expect better leaderboard visibility and other quality-of-life improvements.

Legend League is getting "deeper structural updates." As the highest level of competition, devs want it to feel more prestigious and clearly defined. There will be a more in-depth discussion on the structure later, but the vision is a continuous climb through multiple layers until reaching Top 10,000.

Clan War League feels a bit too compressed for devs' liking, so the ladder will be expanded with four additional leagues. They wrote: "The goal is to spread clans more evenly across the system so that leagues better reflect the strength of each clan and progression feels more achievable for the majority of players.

"Expanding the ladder allows us to improve player progression for a large portion of the player base by spreading clans more evenly across the system and redistributing rewards across the expanded league structure."

The Ore economy is another area with changes ahead. The current system is "not optimal" and devs are looking for a way for players to consistently obtain Ore. This should be added "later this year."

"For 14 years and counting, Clash has continued to evolve. New strategies rise, old ones return, and every update shifts how the game is played. That constant change is part of what keeps Clash exciting," devs wrote.

"The passion from this community fuels that evolution. We deeply appreciate the constructive feedback from players across all levels, including many of our Content Creators who help surface discussions around strategy, balance, and progression. We develop this game for you and always want to hear what you think!

"We will not always get everything perfect immediately, but we care deeply about improving over time and making decisions that support the long term health of Clash. Our goal is simple: keep the game strategic, competitive, and most importantly, fun."
