Riot Games is rumored to be working on a new gacha game set in the League of Legends universe.

An X (Twitter) user recently spotted several job listings from the publisher’s Shanghai studio for an unpublished project.

According to one of the job descriptions and the report by SargeOP, the unannounced game is expected to launch on both mobile and PC.

“The rendering and presentation solutions are designed to match the style of large-scale multiplayer mobile games and League of Legends, balancing the effects of large-scale units and battlefields, as well as cost and performance,” the listing reads as shared by the user.

The title is reportedly similar to Genshin Impact and thus, it is expected to focus on unlocking and upgrading characters, fighting enemies, and progressing through multiple storylines.

We found around eight such job listings on Riot Games’ official website and one of the requirements for the Game Designer (Combat) role states that the applicant should have a “deep understanding and passion for PvE action games/ARPGs,” further solidifying the claim.

Can Riot Games Fix Gacha’s Biggest Issue?

Since gacha games provide multiple revenue streams to the publishers, entering this genre could be beneficial for Riot Games.

Moreover, the publisher can use the revenue generated from the title to fund the development of other projects or even support the existing ones.

As for fans of the League of Legends universe, what could be better than having the chance to experience the backstories and lives of their favorite characters while also being able to interact with them?

However, one of the issues gacha games have historically faced is their inability to keep content fresh and engaging.

Genshin Impact, for instance, has been one of the top titles in the genre. Even though it has some of the best storylines and character designs, the content eventually became repetitive.

Moreover, at one point, it felt as though the main story was being stretched unnecessarily. I used to sink hours into the game, but it gradually lost its excitement, and I preferred to focus only on the Archon Quests.

Almost every gacha game encounters this challenge, and it will be interesting to see how Riot Games will navigate it.
