Marvel Mystic Mayhem opens pre-registrations ahead of its global launch

When Marvel Mystic Mayhem was first announced months ago, my first thought was, quite frankly, why? Marvel Strike Force is already a thing in the world of team-based tactical RPGs. Maybe it is a response to DC: Dark Legion, the storylines are broadly similar. Either way, we have a launch date now!

Mystic Mayhem sees the supervillain Nightmare doing what he does best, trapping everyone in the Nightmare Realm. Doctor Strange has summoned all the help he can get from both Heroes and Villains to counter this threat, and here is where we come in. Put together a team of your favourite characters, and fight back.

The most noticeable aspect of this game right off the bat is the art style. It is a striking choice, making the characters more realistic than the standard animation style we have seen, although it has to be said, it does work. I particularly enjoy the comic book onomatopoeias that have been woven in. You're damn right that Spiderman "thwips" about. 

Each of our heroes comes with a Class, broken down into Strikers, Controllers, Defenders, and Fighters. They also have their Types, such as Energy, Cosmic, Concussive, and the like. You will need to build a balanced team in order to save your would-be allies from the Nightmare Realm, and NetEase has a pre-registration event to start you off the gate in a big way.

At the time of writing, there have already been one million sign-ups, which unlocks what I would say is the best reward: the superhero Psylocke. Two million will get an Exclusive Avatar, which is cool and all, but it is hardly psychic knives. At five million, a big ask, players will gain 10 Shadow Keys. On top of this, you can also recruit a twisted version of Sentry on launch, who has merged with the Void. A terrifying entity, but a very powerful friend.
