Travel through the murky underworld of avian society in The Godfeather: A Mafia Pigeon Saga
It is not often that three words will grab your whole attention, but when Hojo Studio advertises its upcoming game as a swoop-and-poop, you know you are on to a winner, especially when the name is revealed to be The Godfeather: A Mafia Pigeon Saga. It's the simple pleasures.
The Godfather places you in the skittish claws of the sub-titular mafia pigeon, an associate in the brutal pigeon underworld looking to rise through the ranks by taking on missions from their Don. You will be even a list of unique targets and hazards that need to be taken out in each dynamically generated level, and there is only way one a pigeon knows how to tackle a target.
You will play through a heady mix of action, stealth and exploration as you undergo your dark journey through the criminal pigeon enterprise, with the goal of taking back your old neighbourhood from your enemies. It sounds incredibly ridiculous, which often results in some of the best games.

It couldn’t be as easy as that of course, as players will need to contend with Anti-Pigeon Drones, owls, lifeguards, and that most timeless of pigeon foes, the cat. You will need to engage with some clever stealth tactics to avoid these menaces, before proceeding to bombard levels such as The Suburbs, The Boardwalk, and The Town.
As you make your way through the maps, you are able to raid dumpsters to reload your poop ammo, upgrade your skills to become a more rounded pigeon, and even customise your whole look to be the most glamorous thing in the sky, because people looking up to admire you can only make the next shoot more amusing.
Unfortunately for mobile gamers, The Godfeather will be a PC exclusive until next year, with its early October release coinciding with an appearance at PAX Australia. After this event, the developers have also been invited to take part in the inaugural SXSW Sydney Game Fest, taking place from October 18th to 22nd.
