It was only a matter of time before Pokémon TCG Pocket fell to that inevitable beast: time-locked cards. And I am not talking about the pretty alts they have been doing, we now have our first “miss it and you'll be weeping on the floor” event reward in the form of Ultra Nexrozma ex.

Luckily, it is pretty simple to get, and there is plenty of time. It is out now, and to obtain it, you simply need to head over to Solo battles and farm the event deck for Promo Pack A Series Vol 9 drops. It has the standard four difficulty levels, so it is accessible to everyone.

As well as Ultra Necrozma ex, there are also six other promos you can collect. Or, more likely, randomly pull and get annoyed that it isn’t the one you wanted. These are Kartana, Blacephalon, Xurkitree, Dawn Wings Necrozma, Dusk Mane Necrozma, and Stakataka. None of these are really spectacular looking, sadly, so at least you don’t need playsets of them all.

Now, two weeks ago, before this expansion launched, I said some things that were not very nice about Ultra Necrozma ex. I have grown since then and done some self-reflection, and with time, I have come to realise that I was absolutely correct. This is a trash card, and dual-type decks don’t work.

60 Damage for three energy is weak, and its second attack is not spectacular. You need two Psychic and two Steel energy to deal 120, not worth four energy, and it discards five cards from both players' decks. That can cripple you too. And not to mention the influx of cards that can now remove energy from Pokémon, thus scuppering you easily. I am no meta wizard, but collect the card for the collection and move on. I hear Buzzwole is doing well.

Pokémon TCG Pocket is available from the App Store and Google Play, with the current promo event running until June 14th.
