Pokémon TCG Pocket releases Wisdom of Sea and Sky and finally burns Trade Tokens
Between the trading feature finally being fixed and a whole new set of cards to play with, I wasn’t expecting another headline to come out of the launch of Pokémon TCG Pocket’s latest set. It was all looking positive just a few short days ago, and yet, there's now illustration controversy.
We won’t spend too long on that, because it is neither an Eevee nor a Lucario. The Ho-oh Ex and Lugia Ex illustration from the new Wisdom of Sea and Sky set has been removed because they looked stunningly similar to some fan art. The Pokémon Company released a statement saying it was a case of “incorrect reference material” and acted accordingly. I doubt they will ever admit there was ever anything more than that, so we move on to the fun stuff.
It is sad times since we have officially left the Eevee Grove era, but at least we have a ton of fun cards in this Johto-themed set. And honestly, where do we begin? There are a heap of interesting cards this time around. Let’s start with the funniest one: you can now remove a fire energy from a foe using the “Squirt Bottle” tool, a Squirtle watering can. The mental image is hilarious to me.

Fans of coin flips will want the Will Supporter card, which guarantees a heads on the next flip, convenient for our next Pokémon. Lanturn ex’s three-energy attack deals 80 damage and flips a coin. This paralyses your foe if heads, or confuses them if tails. Either way, you are definitely causing some havoc.
Finally, the thing I have been praying for ever since the cursed thing came into existence: a new trading system. Trade Tokens have been consigned to the bin, and instead, trades will simply cost Shinedust. Having said that, don’t forget to head to the Limited Time tab in the Store and scroll across to Other. Here you can trade some of your obsolete Tokens for a limited number of Pack Hourglasses, and then the rest on Shinedust.
Pokémon TCG Pocket is available to download from the App Store and Google Play.
