Pokémon Unite sets the skies alight with the introduction of Mega Charizard X
I feel like Pokémon Unite is one of those games that is just around. It didn’t explode out of the gate like a particularly irate Voltorb, and it didn’t grab our attention like an adorable Eevee. It just is there in a corner, chugging along. Well, The Pokémon Company is here to light a fire under Unite, perhaps literally, with the introduction of Mega Charizard X.
Between Pokémon Z to A introducing new megas, the mega-centric expansion coming to Pokémon Pocket, and now this, it seems that The Pokémon Company realized it was a mistake to leave them behind, which is great. I love Mega Evolutions, mostly for Mega Lucario. And let's be fair, Gigantamaxing and Terastallizing were a cheap imitation.
Mega Charizard X will work the same way that Mega Lucario did when he was introduced last month. You need the Mega Evolution Unite license, and then you have to use their Unite Move in battle. After this, you will Mega Evolve for a short time, having boosted stats and a unique skill set.

Rather hilariously, in Charizard's Unite Move, you grab your foe, fly into the air, and then slam them to the ground. I love that Mega Charizard X comes from what is a high-velocity belly flop. Humour aside, he is a frightening customer. His Tough Claws Ability gives a boost counter each time you hit your opponent, for a maximum of 3. Consume one, and your next attack is a guaranteed critical. When you hit a foe with a basic attack that you have previously burnt, you will also heal, to keep the pain train rolling.
To celebrate, the Mega Charizard X Unite License Event will run until November 14th. During this, you can complete research data, earning research coins along the way. Collect enough, and you can buy the Unite Mega Evolution license for this big burny boy. Or, if you don’t want to grind, buy it after the event in the Unite Battle Committee shop.
Pokémon Unite is available from the App Store and Google Play.
