Take the lead of a team of athletic good boys as Pup Champs open for pre-orders

I don’t care what big-name developers make an announcement or what massive game gets released. Show me something really stupid or really adorable, and I will cover that instead. Case in point, we have one of the latter, as Afterburn has opened pre-orders for Pup Champs.

Here, you take on the role of a retired soccer coach - the incorrect way to say football - who takes one more job on. This is leading a team of adorable pups to victory, because who can say no to that? You will start as clumsy, rank amateurs and teach them the ways of the game and life through a series of comic strips.

Luckily for fans of cute critters, you don’t need to know a single thing about football to play. Pup Champs is designed to be accessible to everyone. Plus, I can’t quite see the crowd at a football match having a match of Pup Champs during halftime. Instead, you will be solving a series of puzzles.

Levels will begin rather simply, with just you and an open goal, but will then begin to expand as you get further. Obstacles such as tall grass that will swallow your football will pop up, teammates will join for you to work alongside, and a host of cheeky monkeys will invade the pitch and make it their mission to ruin your day.

The best part about this is that Pup Champs is free, to a degree. A very, very small degree. You will get the first 20 puzzles to tackle, more than enough to decide if you want to invest in this dog-based world. It does have pedigree, with developer Afterburn having released Golf Peaks, Railbound, and Pulsar, all of which have received some very glowing reviews.
