Warcodes gets a massive new update that adds a massive world to explore
Pokémon has long held a vice grip on the monster-battling genre. However, in my opinion, it has dropped off a cliff lately, leaving room for competitors such as Warcodes. Developers Cozy Orchards have recently announced the massive Welcome to Warcodia update for Warcodes, introducing a huge new world.
Warcodes is a creature-collector that lets you scan barcodes to get monsters. Now, this barcode mechanic isn’t new. In fact, I remember a little handheld device called Skannerz that let you do the same when I was a kid. And I loved it. Imagine buying some milk, scanning it, and also getting a massive dragon. Magical.
The biggest feature in this update is the game's first navigable world map. You can explore the capital of Warcodia, Zillion, or strike out into the Cursed Forest and Wraith Woods to enjoy timed PvE battles. It is a good opportunity to stretch your party's legs and gain experience and rewards.
If you are interested in shopping, you can peruse Celli’s Market. Here you will find a host of merchants offering a variety of goods, such as weapons and potions. You can even pick up items that affect spawn rates. Luckily, your inventory is now auto-sorted by type or rarity of item, so you can go crazy and buy whatever you please.

After stocking up on gear, you can try out the upgraded Arena. There are enhanced Daily and Masters King of the Hill events, now with faster cycling competitive formats and improved leaderboards. If you manage to strike a rapport with your opponent, you can add them to the handy new friends list to meet them more easily.
If you take a look at the stats page, you will notice your Player Level. You can obviously increase this with experience points, and we all love it when the numbers go up. Finally, the scanner interface has had a glow-up, with customisable options to tweak it how you like. If you find some scanner-levelling upgrades, you can even boost its efficiency.
Warcodes is available to download from the App Store and Google Play.
