Flurry - iPhone Pushes Out PSP For Software Sales

After just a year and a half on the market, mobile phone analytics company Flurry has estimated that the Apple iPhone (and iPod touch) has captured almost 5% of the market's video game sales for 2009. This poses a big threat for other portable gaming devices thanks to the overwhelming number of cheap apps that are potentially driving people from the Sony PSP and Nintendo DS to Apple's touch devices. Based off their own analysis and numbers from NPD (via Gamasutra), Flurry have estimated that the iPhone and iPod Touch controls 5% of the $9.9 billion US video game software sales for 2009. Even more staggeringly, after comparing sales for portable game devices only the iPhone made up 19% of…

Castle Fantasy Review

Review Croquis Co., Ltd. By Andrew Nesvadba, 4 years, 7 months ago
Castle Fantasy Review

Castle Fantasy by Croquis is a great new release for action-platformers on the App Store. While its controls still leave a lot to be desired, almost everything else is polished and kept simple making this a perfect addition to any hardcore gamer's collection. As with most standard side-scrollers the controls make use of virtual buttons to move side-to-side, jump, attack or shoot. Quirks such as only being about to double-jump while jumping up can throw off experienced platformer fans,…

With some controls taking over most of the screen to ensure they're accurate it's nice to see that Flare Elite, a new vertical shoot'em-up by Firi Games has tried to solve the problem of quick responding, natural controls with their unique setup. Flare Elite is a modern take on the shoot'em-up, giving players the option to upgrade weapons outside of combat and the choice of what weapon they take in to battle once they're unlocked. PuzzleManiak Review

I'll confess, it's not often that I truly enjoy a puzzle game because I honestly prefer my games to be more... 'gamey'. Puzzle Maniak by Alexandre Minard is an assorted collection of borrowed puzzle ideas with some unique ones thrown in that keeps you pulled in through its sheer polish and clever online features. Instead of being a hodge-podge of half-finished games Puzzle Maniak manages to implement each puzzle completely along with customizable difficulty levels. You're almost guara…

iJumpman Review

iJumpman Review

In this day and age with our new fangled technologies and high processing power game systems, sometimes its nice to go back to basics. What's even nicer is if you go back to platforming and put a new spin on things. In iJumpman you control a man straight out of the Atari 2600 as he strives to jump over obstacles and find the exit. The most important aspect of a platformer to get right are the controls, and this is where iJumpman fails. There are two schemes, a touch scheme and buttons…

Dave says goodbye to Appspy

Well this is my last day as editor of Appspy.com I've had a fantastic time helping to launch this site. This time it's all about Turf War with a 'persistent street-racing scene' where you can join a crew and conquer territories by winning races. You will also have to defend your territory.  But the turf war goes even further with the ability for you to fight over territories with your friends via Facebook. There will be four locations, five modes (Road Race, Time Trial, Cop Chase, Boss Battle and Drag Race), 12 tracks and a choice between 35 cars.…

Devil Invasion Review

By now we've not only seen a slew of Bejeweled style games on the iphone, we've also seen games use Bejeweled as a mechanic for other types of gameplay. Devil Invasion is one of these games. Wrapping gem matching up in a castle defense coating, makes for a very interesting play. At the start of each level you can assign three skills to your character (which can be bought and upgraded). These spells require mana which is collected by playing the match three game during the level. This…
