Remember when Blizzard created a massively successful shooter in Overwatch, and it was everywhere? Then they brought out Overwatch 2 and shut the original servers, which annoyed a lot of people? This situation is why I can’t help but approach the new mobile title Overwatch Rush with trepidation.

I am expecting the rug to be pulled at any minute.

Let’s put this to bed right now; we are not getting Overwatch on mobile. This is a brand new game created specifically for mobile, not a port or anything of that nature. A little disappointing, it would have been cool to get the real thing on mobile, but I suppose a bespoke experience is a close second.

Further evidence that we aren’t getting a faithful Overwatch recreation is the development team. Team 4, the developers of Overwatch 1 and 2, aren't involved in Rush. A little disappointing, but apparently, the Rush team is made up of developers with deep mobile experience. This is very promising. I would prefer a specialist team then sometone trying to just jam a port into my phone.

So, what even is Overwatch Rush then?

If it sounds like I am stalling, it is because I am. Rush is a top-down hero shooter, and looking at the trailer, I am not that impressed. It looks like if League of Legends was played on double speed. Also, not relevant, just saying, the dialogue in the gameplay preview above sounds so rehearsed it hurts.

Maybe it is the franchise. It's odd seeing the likes of Tracer and Mercy not in a shooter. If you play an Overwatch game, you want the aiming and the shooting. Rush seems to have taken that away and replaced it with just buttons. We are still quite early in the development, so maybe seeing more will change my mind.
