You would think that, having only launched last week, SD Gundam G Generation Eternal would spend a little time getting its feet under the table. But no, Bandai has decided it will just explode out of the gate, releasing a new event this month and announcing an addition to the main story.

Let’s start with the smaller news, and I mean that purely comparatively. The Fierce Enemy Assault (Red Gundam) event is kicking off today, pitting players against a host of powerful foes from across the franchise. This, of course, includes Char's eponymous Red Gundam from Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, which is a genuine series title.

On a normal day, that would be incredibly interesting, and don’t get me wrong, it still is. Unfortunately, the developers then blew their own story out of the water by announcing some new Main Stages coming on April 30th. The additions will come from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Recollection, and if you are thinking you haven’t heard of this one, that's because you haven’t. It is brand new, original content.

Here is why this is extremely exciting to me. Not only do we get new Gundam stories, but it is also quite a positive sign that Bandai and co are allowing this fresh game to create new entries in the lore. I am very pleased to hear Eternal will be pioneering stories, not just retelling them.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Recollection will bridge the gap between Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny, perhaps my favourite of the Gundam series. We will get new stories, no doubt, including Kira Yamato, Athrun Zala, Lacus Clyne, and most importantly, Haro. I am curious if we will see much of Shinn Asuka from Destiny, or if they will leave him out of the bridging stories. Either way, I am one very happy Gundam fan.

SD Gundam G Generation Eternal is available to download from the App Store and Google Play.
