Plants Vs. Zombies 2 Dark Ages Part 2 update is blooming well out right now

If you've been fighting off the undead in Plants Vs. Zombies 2 for a while, you'll be well aware that the first part of the Dark Ages update has been out for a while, with Part 2 held tantalisingly close but just out of reach. As of today you can now grab the second part of the adventure with two decaying hands, continuing this epic quest, set in the medieval period. The free update includes 10 more levels to battle through, and two new plants added to the roster, plus an endless mode called Arthur's Challenge. New zombies complete the gruesome package: the Wizard Zombie (who does nefarious things with sheep), and the King Zombie (who transforms zombies into knights). So, AppSpies, whi…

The Sailor's Dream is the next game from developer of Year Walk and Device 6, and this is what it looks like

Simogo has announced its latest game: it's called The Sailor's Dream, and it'll be out late 2014 on iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. If you're not in the know as to who Simogo is, it's the developer of critically acclaimed iOS releases Year Walk and DEVICE 6, as well as Beat Sneak Bandit, Bumpy Road, and Kosmo Spin. We're therefore setting our bar of expectation pretty high on this one, especially after having seen the new trailer. The game is apparently "a challenge-free experience in which you explore a non-linear story through words, music, sounds and illustrations". The team's blog expands on this further;"In some ways The Sailor’s Dream is the culmination of ideas and concepts we…

Telltale confirms The Walking Dead Season 3 is on the way

Telltale has confirmed that its acclaimed interactive adventure The Walking Dead will return for a third season. The announcement was made at this year's Comic Con in San Diego, and later shared with the world via the developer's Twitter account. Given the ongoing success of the zombie-themed series, it's no surprise that Telltale is keen to continue building stories in the world of The Walking Dead. However, with the team already prepping Tales from the Borderlands and an interactive Game of Thones series for release before 2015, it's going to be a very busy year for the studio. Unfortunately, there's no word at this time whether Clementine will return in season three, or when the gam…

Marvel Contest of Champions lets you play as Deadpool, Spider-Man, Hulk and more

San Diego Comic-Con was full of big announcements for big franchises this year, such as the Angry Birds Transformers news we posted about on Friday. Over on the Marvel Video Games panel, the folks at Kabam (The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-earth, Wartune, Fast and Furious 6: The Game) announced Marvel Contest of Champions, a brand new mobile game set for release on "mobile" (read: iOS and Android) in Autumn 2014. The above teaser makes the game look like a one-on-one fighting game, like Tekken or King of Fighters, but we're yet to confirm that with Kabam. We do also know that it's being made by Kabam's Vancouver studio, and that players will battle heroes and villains from the Marvel univ…

Majestic Nights: Season One is a role-playing thriller set in an alternate eighties where every conspiracy is real

It's the eighties. The Berlin Wall is tumbling down, Live Aid is helping to raise money for the poor, Jason Donovan is dating Kylie Minogue, and everything is right with the world. Except that every conspiracy story ever conceived is actually true, we live in a completely fabricated illusion of what is real, and all this is perpetrated by Cardholder, an intelligence officer at a shadowy government organisation. This is the weird and wonderful world of Majestic Nights: Season One, the teaser trailer for which has just been released. Scant few details are available at the moment, but players will apparently "use wits, stealth and sometimes even a little force to investigate, explore, and…

Angry Birds Transformers trailer demonstrates why Rovio's new game will make me homeless

If you're lucky enough to be attending San Diego Comic-Con then you might have already seen the new trailer for Angry Birds Transformers. If you're stuck at home, at school, or even worse, at work, then never fear, because you can see the new video here. The video shows off a CGI render of various Angry Birds as Transformers, running through the environment and battling piggy enemies. Astrotrain, Optimus Prime, and Megatron all make an appearance, and they seem to be fighting on the same side too, which is neat. What's not so neat is that this new trailer also shows off the new TelePods, which you'll be able to scan and subsequently bring new characters into your game. Since I'm a gigan…

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game from Combo Crew devs jump kicks its way onto iOS and Android

The official game of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is out now on iOS and Android. While the AppSpy team isn't massively excited by the upcoming film, this video game adaptation - named, rather appropriately, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - has firmly grabbed our attention, as it's developed by the team behind Combo Crew. The game's plot - which is written by one of the authors of the comic book series - revolves around you recapturing the streets of New York City as the Turtles, playing as either Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, or Michelangelo against the evil forces of the Foot Clan. To do so you'll brawl through stage after stage of mutant goons and end-of-level bosses,…

If you've been slinging cards in Hearthstone for a while now then you might well be looking for more adventures to embark upon. The first of these Wings is titled The Arachnid Quarter, and will be free for a limited time during launch. After that it will join the rest of the Wings as a piece of paid content, unlockable with real money or Gold. Each Wing will set you back $6.99 / £4.99. Kemco's RPG Band of Monsters goes from $7.99 to free for a limited time on iOS and Android

We all like something for nothing, and Kemco is offering RPG fans with iOS and Android devices exactly that. One of their role playing games - Machine Knight - has just hit 1,000,000 downloads on Android, so to celebrate Kemco is giving away another of its RPGs for free. It's called Band of Monsters, and considering that the game is usually priced $7.99 / £5.49, this promotion represents quite the saving on this usually premium title. Not convinced by the trailer? All you need to know is that you'll be going on a long quest to tame monsters around the world, combining them with one another when caught to make all-new monsters, and using them to fight in classic JRPG-style battles.…

As you may have already heard, Modern Combat 5: Blackout is blasting its way onto the App Store this week. What you may not know is that Gameloft's new military shooter is also invading other games - specifically, high octane arcade racer Asphalt 8: Airborne. As part of an unusual cross-promotion, Asphalt 8 players will be able to zoom around a Venice track which is being bombarded by explosions, helicopters, and some more explosions. This perk is part of a Time Limited Event which expires when Modern Combat 5 goes live on the App Store on July 24th. What's more, navigate the war-torn track with skill, and you might even win a free copy of Modern Combat 5. You can download Asphal…

Upcoming CCG Assassin’s Creed Memories lets you hop through history

Ubisoft has joined forces with Gree and PlayNext to deliver an all new free-to-play installment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise: a CCG called Assassin’s Creed Memories. Digital card-battling has been increasing in popularity recently. The genre’s ability to mix the card combat with RPG leveling and strategic elements have sucked players in, while the booster-pack IAPs have attracted publishers and developers. Ubisoft seems to be planning to tap directly into this popularity, utilising its Assassin’s Creed franchise as the foundation. Inviting you into a new mobile Animus, you have to travel through history with the aim of building a powerful guild, recruitin…

Learn how to play Monster Hunter Freedom Unite with AppSpy - Episode 1

Monsters are jerks. Swaggering around with their gigantic crab-like claws and magical fire breath, playing 'who can chomp the most humans in a single bite' while they clear the bones of your relatives out of their monster bin. Every Friday, Peter, Harry, and I are meeting up on the AppSpy Twitch channel to play the newly-released iOS version of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.
