Dino Hunter: Deadly Shores will launch next week, allows you to shoot out a velociraptor's heart

Word has just reached us that Glu will be releasing Dino Hunter: Deadly Shores onto App Store's the world over next week. Glu is the company behind Eternity Warriors, Frontline Commando, Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, and the disturbingly popular Deer Hunter series. Though I'm thoroughly repulsed at the thought of shooting deer, digital or otherwise, I am totally, absolutely, 100% completely behind blasting dinosaurs with guns until they explode, and happily that's exactly what Dino Hunter: Deadly Shores will let you do. Dino Hunter's gameplay is similar to Deer Hunter's, in that you'll be plonked into wild locations, handed a powerful weapon, and told to blow animals to smithereens in a ra…

The Angry Birds are going to South Hamerica in the latest Seasons update

Those Angry Birds are at it again, this time with another huge update to Angry Birds Seasons. This latest embiggening of the aggressive avian’s adventures sends the flock to South Hamerica to take on 24 new levels. These new missions have you firing your birds over mountains to try and stop the evil piggies from stealing treasure. The mountain range - probably called the Hamdes - is filled with ancient statues, relics, and rope bridges for you to smash your way through as you attempt to bring down the savage swine by solving the game’s physics-based puzzles. The 24 standard levels are accompanied by three bonus stages, providing you are skilled enough to unlock them. Angry…

Hands-on with World Zombination, the strategic tower defence game with hordes of zombies

Though it's still in beta, we wanted to bring you an exclusive first look at World Zombination, a handsome-looking tower defence game with loads and loads of zombies in it. You play as either the survivors or, in a neat twist, the infected, and must defend your city from an imminent invasion. Carefullly placing units with different types of skills and abilities is what's required to succeed, and the game has a few subtleties in its gameplay that will no doubt intrigue fans of the genre. Watch our hands-on video below, then chime in in the comments with what you think of this currently unreleased title.…

Civilization Revolution 2 Review

Civilization Revolution 2 Review

Civilization Revolution 2 has a single goal: rule the world. How you set about achieving this easier-said-than-done task is open to interpretation. You could decide to control Gandhi in his march to military domination, or guide Bismarck to a religious victory, rewriting history with a selection of taps. Though Revolution 2 is based on previous Civilization games, there are added nuances to this new version. Fortunately, a tutorial walks you through the basic controls, showing yo…

Hands-on with Rapid Star: The Space, the bullet-infested shmup with an auto-runner lilt

Hands-on with Rapid Star: The Space, the bullet-infested shmup with an auto-runner lilt

Auto-runners are ten a penny these days, and shmups aren't exactly a brand new idea on mobiles and tablets, but if you combine the two - and add a Scramble aesthetic - you end up with something quite unique. Enter Rapid Star: The Space, a terrible name for a pretty solid game. You control the ship on the left of the screen, it automatically fires lasers into baddies, and you dodge any bullets headed your way. The game is brutal, and it certainly doesn't expect you to survive for very long, so at the end of a run you're given a score and can compete with friends for highscores. Take a look at the hands-on below for footage of the game in motion.…

Hands-on with Civilization Revolution 2, the game where Queen Elizabeth conquers distant planets

I've been toying around with Civilization Revolution 2 since yesterday morning, checking out this grand strategy offering from 2K Games and seeing what's new, what's improved, and what still needs work. I knew I'd be deciding what technologies to research next, training up troops for war, and trading goods with other civilizations while simultaneously plotting their downfall. What I didn't know I'd be doing was flying Queen Elizabeth to Beta Centauri and commanding the British Empire to victory on a distant planet. Take a look at the video below for alien barbarian-related fun.…

Hitman GO update sends Agent 47 to the airport in new chapter

Square Enix Montreal’s fantastic Hitman GO has just received an additional chapter in its latest update. The Airport chapter adds a whole new set of missions to the this turn-based take on the Hitman franchise. As with previous chapters, the Airport is broken up into a number of diorama-like stages that have you moving past various security measures en route to your unfortunate mark. This setting brings with it a host of challenges to overcome. These include moving walkways that rapidly move you through extended locations, and high alert guards that can monitor two paths at once. IN addition to these new obstacles, Agent 47 now has an additional trick in his arsenal: patience…

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is spotted in the wilds of the App Store, has large bounty on its head

We've known Monster Hunter Freedom Unite would be coming to iOS for some time now, but the question on our lips has always been "when"? "Now!" is the answer, as the title is currently available in App Stores the world over. And that's good news, because we've been more than a little keen to get our hands on it ever since we played it at E3. The original was released on PSP in 2008, and this new iOS version features improved visuals, automatic targeting of monsters in combat, and support for MiFi controllers. Of particular interest to us is the online co-op multiplayer with upto three other players, as we're totally up for forming a party, trekking out into the wilderness, and hunting m…

Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake Review

Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake Review

It was great being a kid. We could talk to our dog in the street without people thinking were crazy, and on our birthday we could eat cake for breakfast without feeling guilty. Its this sense of wonder and delight that Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake instantly awakens - except, as the name suggests, there will be no cake because monsters have stolen it. Taking control of a young boy named Niko, you follow your trusty dachshund Bazooka in search of your missing cake. The innocent story s…

Skylanders Battlegrounds is free on the App Store

Skylanders Battlegrounds is free on the App Store

Skylanders Battlegrounds - Activision's iOS version of its hugely Skylanders franchise - is currently free on the App Store. This iOS interpretation of Skylanders’s uses a mix of turn-based movement and real-time combat. A hex-based grid provides an overworld map, letting you move one hexagon at a time through the world. Landing on a hexagon either opens a chest to net you gems, or begins a battle dumping you into the game’s battle system. In combat you simply trace a line from your Skylander towards enemies to engage them. Its a simple system, but thanks to the interesting characters and their range of attacks there is enough to keep younger players happy. The real focus of…

Civilization Revolution 2 brings new units, buildings, visuals, and a princely price tag

We were big fans of the original Civilization Revolution back in 2009, awarding it an impressive 5 out of 5 for its large amount of replay value, compulsive play, and surprising depth. We also said of this strategy classic that "you'd be hard pressed to find a better title in the genre". Strong stuff! Five years on, and Civilization Revolution 2 has been released onto the App Store, and it's bringing with it some exciting new features for strategy buffs. Among the new aerial units are Aircraft Carriers and Jet Fighters, and Special Forces also make an appearance. New technology and building types also bring this streamlined version of "proper" Civilization closer in line with the PC origi…

Final Fantasy creator goes free-to-play with his next game Terra Battle

Final Fantasy creator goes free-to-play with his next game Terra Battle

The acclaimed designer and director of the Final Fantasy franchise, Hironobu Sakaguchi is going free-to-play with his upcoming mobile RPG Terra Battle. Coming from a translated Famitsu article, information on Terra Battle is still a little sparse. While it is being built around a free-to-play model, it is designed to be completable without having to spend any penny - providing you have the patients and time. In the article Sakaguchi also cryptically states that he is hoping to work in collaboration with other game creators on the project. Though it is unclear exactly what this means we would not be adverse to paying for guest director quests that spin-off from the main tale. As wel…

Hands-on with FallMan, the 'silly little trampoline-jumping sports game'

Hands-on with FallMan, the 'silly little trampoline-jumping sports game'

FallMan is about as indie as it gets. Juho Glad is its creator: a one-man-band indie dev creating the art, designing the gameplay, implementing the sound, handling the promotion... everything. It's his first game, but you wouldn't be able to tell. He describes FallMan as “Tony Hawks meets Flappy Bird”, and though the game is still a fair way out from being finished, the core elements are certainly in place to justify that bold claim. You have to keep a moustachioed gent bouncing on a trampoline, all the while performing death-defying tricks in the air for points. Make one mistake, it's game over, your score appears, and the protagonist rag dolls in slow motion. It's simple but…

Hands-on with Ortus, the digital multiplayer strategy board game

Hands-on with Ortus, the digital multiplayer strategy board game

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the best person to speak with about board games - my knowledge just about stretches to Talisman, but it's mostly lodged between Mouse Trap and KerPlunk. But sometimes a game like Ortus comes along and it immediately catches my eye. Ortus is interesting, because it's not just a digital board game, it's also a physical board game, and the two are being developed at the same time. The game itself is like a cross between chess, a hyper-advanced checkers, and a Games Workshop release, making for very methodical and deliberate play that relies on tactical nuance and forward thinking from each player. Check out the game being played in the video below...…
