Hands-on with LINE: Disney Tsum Tsum, the super sweet Japanese Disney game

If you're a regular AppSpy viewer you may well remember the Twitch stream where we took a good hard look at some of the quality titles out on the Japanese App Store. Having spent a little of time with it, I decided I just had to show you more of this hidden gem. Take a look at the hands-on video below and sound-off as to whether you'd like to see it in your local App Store.…

OTTTD iPad Review

OTTTD iPad Review

OTTTD (or 'Over The Top Tower Defence') does a pretty good job of living up to its title. Every stage, you are swarmed by bizarre cartoon aliens, and must erect towers to fight them back. Each vanquished foe leaves behind a bloodied corpse, meaning that, within minutes, your base in drenched in an ocean of gore. While the action is frantic, the classic tower defence gameplay is easily mastered thanks to its straightforward controls. Tapping on any construction point brings up a radial…

Watch_Dogs Companion: ctOS Mobile lets you battle console and PC players online

If you are excited about the release of Ubisoft's highly anticipated Watch_Dogs, then the Watch_Dogs Companion: ctOS Mobile might be be worth a peek. Rather than assuming remote control of the game's tech savvy protagonist Aiden Pearce, this mobile companion app lets you switch roles, giving you command over the Chicago Police department. This means that while someone at their console or PC controlling Aiden Pearce on the home version of the game, you can comandeer a police helicopter to hunt him down. Your chopper even comes equipped with its very own sharpshooter to take down unsuspecting players cruising Chicago streets. If that weren’t enough, you also gain control of ct…

Make your iPhone a microphone with upcoming SingStar companion app

SingStar will be making its PS4 debut later this year. Rather excitingly for iOS users, however, is news of the companion app which will launch alongside the new game allowing players to use their iPhone as a microphone. The best part? Beyond the convenience of whipping out your mobile and lauching into a rendition of Gold, a microphone will be displayed on your device's screen, making you feel like a true pop star. The app will work with both PS3 and PS4 versions of SingStar, and will be useable on any of your iOS devices - though we imagine the best experience will be on your smaller iPhone. The companion app will be released alongside SingStar later this year as a free download from th…

Long-awaited sequel Battleheart Legacy set to strike the App Store next week

Way back in 2011, a gem of an iOS RPG was released featuring an intuitive touch control scheme, colourful and charming cartoon visuals, and a deep skill system. That game was Battleheart, and we rather liked it, giving it 4 stars at review. Battleheart Legacy is the long-awaited sequel to that game. And, judging from the official trailer below, it appears that the excellent control scheme and skill system have remained intact. Surprisingly, the move to 3D hasn't really affected the visual style much at all, with the colourful cast of characters reminiscent of those in the original. The game's charm and sense of humour appears to be present and correct, too. However, while the game's st…

Globosome: Path of the Swarm Review

There is something joyous about you first moments with Globosome: Path of the Swarm. Controlling a small spherical creature named Globo, you roll through a vibrant green world, gathering you orb-like buddies as you go.  You control Globo by tilting your device. The accuracy of the gyroscope is fantastic, making the constant corrections you have to make as you trundles over uneven ground easy and instinctive. Nowhere is this accuracy more important than when navigating the mo…

GungHo merging Puzzle & Dragons with Saint Seiya in upcoming crossover game

GungHo has announced that Puzzle & Dragons is getting a crossover title with Japanese manga and anime series Saint Seiya. The proposed game has no release date as of yet, but we do know that characters from the recent Saint Seiya movie Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary will make an appearance. This follows news earlier in the week that Puzzle & Dragons is getting another crossover title with an anime hit, Dragon Ball Kai. Judging from the poster above it would appear that the game will contain traditional Puzzle and Dragons gameplay but set in the world of Dragon Ball Kai. Again, no release date has been confirmed. There have been a few successful Puzzle & Dragons crossovers…

Relive the '80s iOS-style with adventure puzzler MacGyver Deadly Descent

FairPlay Media’s new adventure puzzle game is inspired by that most resourceful of '80s TV icons, MacGuyver. Based on the TV show, MacGuyver Deadly Descent puts you in the shoes of agent Angus MacGyver as he tries to stop a computer virus from destroying the top secret D.A.W.N laboratory. Naturally, it's up to you to infiltrate the facility, solve the puzzles therein, and save the day. Think Secret Agent Professor Layton, and you'll get the picture. Six categories of puzzles will test your logic, memory, and ingenuity while you descend into the complex's depths. If you are of “of weak character”, the game also links to a free cheat app to help you through its more…

Bandai Namco honours PAC-MAN's 34th birthday with Mayhem Maze update

PAC-MAN turned 34 this year, and to celebrate Bandai Namco has released the Mayhem Maze pack, available now from the App Store. The pack contains three new mazes, available in both the paid-release PAC-MAN and the free PAC-MAN Lite. Each of the new mazes - Cloudy, Dazzle, and Square Dance - contains 20 stages which should pose a challenge for even the most hardened PAC-MAN expert. According to Bandai Namco, the new mazes offer 'non-traditional complex mazes', which suggests a possible new spin on the old formula. The Mayhem Maze pack is available as an IAP within either versions of the game and is priced at £1.49 / $1.99. Head on over to the App Store to get yourself a copy in hon…

Tetris and Scrabble inspired puzzler Crobble is out now on iPhone

If you've ever felt that Scrabble just isn't lively enough, or that Tetris doesn't contain enough words, Crobble may be the game for you. Released yesterday on the App Store, Crobble aims to blend the best of both classic puzzlers. You tap on a series of falling lettered-tiles to create words, at which point the letters disappear and net you points. There's a point goal which must be reached in order to pass the level. As with Tetris block, however, if your pileof letters reaches the top of the screen, your game is over. More points can be won by collecting power ups or using modifier tiles. Bombs also fall, so make sure to blow them up to create precious space for more letters. T…
