Health psychology researcher Phillippa Lally found that it takes an average of two months for a new behavior to become a habit. More importantly, she also found that missing one opportunity to perform a behavior doesn't have a significant impact on the habit formation process, meaning it's okay to slip up from time to time. Creating better habits is not an all-or-nothing process.
