Mojang will be launching Part 1 of its massive Caves and Cliffs update for Minecraft next week on 8th June.

The update is coming to every version of Minecraft, meaning you’ll be able to play it on iOS, Android, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Mac and Linux. Basically anything that has either the Bedrock or Java editions of the game.

The update was announced back in April to be split into two parts due to it being the most ambitious update for Minecraft in its entire ten-year history, with part one of the update coming in the summer and the second part arriving sometime during winter.

As you’ve come to expect from Minecraft updates, Caves and Cliffs adds a bunch of new mobs, items and blocks to the game as well as making other big changes to the world. As implied by the title of the update, Mojang is making changes to world generation, introducing new underground cave biomes to ensure subterranean exploration remains interesting.

The first part of the update due to arrive next week focuses on the new mobs and items. This includes the Goat, Axolotl, Crystals, Spyglass, Geodes, Tinted Glass, Copper, Lightning Rod, Glow Squid, Glow Ink, Powder Snow, Lush Cave Blocks, Dripstone Cave Blocks, Deepslate, Ore Variants, Glow Lichen.

On the other hand, Part 2 of the Caves and Cliffs update is confirmed to be coming later this year. It’s planned for “holiday season” at the moment with no concrete release date, and will presumably include the new world changes and anything else that didn’t make it into Part 1.

You can download Minecraft now ahead of the Caves and Cliffs: Part 1 update next week on the iOS App Store and the Google Play for Android store. It is a paid title costing £6.99.
