If the freezing cold, ice-pop vehicles, multiple storms, snow, or the myriad of other harbingers of the cold are anything to go by, we are still deep in the heart of winter, which can only mean two things; perpetual frostbite and the Old School RuneScape Winter Summit. You can view the whole thing on Twitch if you have a spare three hours, but here are the bullet points.

Kicking off with the biggy that was teased back during the Summer Summit is Varlamore, a whole new area for players to explore. The first part of this locale will be launching on March 20th and will include the Civitas illa Fortis, and the vast yawning chasm of the Avium Savannah.

Those stalwart amongst you will be able to undergo the Fortis Colosseum quests, explore a new dungeon called Perilous Moons with a roguelike spin as it changes slightly whenever you enter, or a new Hunter’s Guild which allows you to follow rumours and capture a variety of new monsters.

Fans of the series might recall the Defender of Varrock and the While Guthix Sleeps quests and will be excited to hear they will be entering Old School Runescape this year to expand the Mahjarrat storyline. Varrock will be joining in the Spring, which Guthix need just a little more of a nap and shall follow in the summer.

Lower-level characters will now be able to join in the backstabbing fun as The Chaos Temple gets revamped in the spring, allowing more players an entry point to begin the PvP fun. The Sailing skill got a shout-out whilst still being in development, and Deadman Apocalypse along with Scurrius the Rat King will be coming in the first half of the year.

Outside of the gameplay, HD Mode will be introduced to allow players the option to see the world in a whole new way with improved dynamic lighting, sunlight effects, and fog, with the option to toggle this off and on. Finally, the Official Client Plugin API will provide a way to bring your favourite helpers along for the ride with minimal fuss.

Old School Runescape is available to download from the App Store and Google Play.
