Sometimes it can be lonely at the top, but the Baseball Superstars® series from GAMEVIL has earned its position of dominance thanks to its in-depth and detailed baseball gameplay that remains lighthearted despite the intense management required to succeed. Their third outing (BS2011) is no less of a beast in terms of content, but additional refinements to the gameplay show that GAMEVIL aren't interested in resting on their laurels.

The controls for BS2011 haven't seen much of a change and those familiar with arcade-style baseball games will feel right at home. One of the potential weaknesses of the series has been the complexity of the game's management system, however options now exist to streamline matches to only require interaction on critical scenarios. For some the ability to let the AI take over may be blasphemy, but it provides casual gamers with the option to stick to the things they enjoy the most, be it pitching or batting in critical situations.

There's slightly more detail to the visuals than the previous titles, though the signature manga-inspired super deformed art style has remained. The real high point of BS2011 is just how deeply each mode interacts with each other, giving you a chance to mold a superstar that can then outfit your team and subsequently be used to complete challenges or to unlock additional content and characters.

For those that are already fans of the series, these changes may not mean too much, but it has opened to door for casual gamers to join the fun at their own pace without feeling overwhelmed. Baseball Superstars® 2011 has rightfully claimed the top spot for baseball sims and is easy game to recommend to any gamer.
