yachtsman’s- or seaman’s knots are knots with special demands:
- one must be able to fix them quickly
- they have to hold save on tension
- they must come easily undone after subjecting them to heavy load.

There are of course plenty of knots, but to know just a view selected ones should be enough in the daily use of a beginning seaman. Those are exactly the knots being questioned at a yacht- or motor boat licence.
