The top 10 iPhone and iPad games of 2018: No 5 - Florence

By , on December 17, 2018

We've passed the half way mark of our round-up of the best iPhone and iPad games that came out over the past 12 months. Haven't had a chance to read about games 10-6? Well you can do that with a quick click right here.

Now we're into the real meat of the list - the top 5. We're starting off in the only way we can - by writing about what we think is the 5th best game that came out for iPhone and iPad this year. Think we've got the order wrong? Want to throw another game in the ring? Then do it in the comments at the bottom of the article pretty please.

Florence

This one isn't so much a game as it is an experience. It's a story about love and loss, finding yourself and losing touch. There's only about an hour's worth of Florence, but every second of it is going to stick in your memory for a good long while.

There are plenty of story-driven games out there, but none of them manage to capture the charms, thrills, and crushing disappointments of first love like Florence does. Anyone who says mobile gaming is for kids should be forced to play this one. Perhaps the best word to describe Florence would be honest - there are moments when it's going to crush you, but there are moments when it's going to fill your heart with a special kind of joy that most other games can only dream of.

We need more games like Florence, especially on the App Store, which is why it's earned 5th place in our list. It's not just one of the best games of 2018, it's one of the most important as well. We don't just mean for mobile, either - this is a game that deserves to be played by as many people as possible.
