Mistwalker Corp is releasing a new JRPG called Fantasian coming to iOS via Apple Arcade in the next few weeks.

Fantasian hosts some of the usual JRPG gameplay features you’ve come to expect from the genre: overworld exploration, dungeons, and turn-based battles. Several quality of life improvements are also coming though, which may twist the formula.

For example, there’s a new system called the Dimengeon Battle mechanic, which allows you to send previously encountered enemies into another dimension which leads to uninterrupted exploration before defeating them all in go much later.

In Fantasian, you play as Leo, who wakes up at the beginning of the game with amnesia and must set off to try and reclaim all of the memories he has lost while he learns more about a mysterious mechanical infection that’s taking over the universe.

Fantasian is developed by Mistwalker Corp, and Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi is also involved in writing the story as well as Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu creating the soundtrack.

Using over 150 handmade dioramas, the game uses these beautiful backdrops to tell the story and give it a unique look. You can see that for yourself in the trailer linked within this article.
These sets have been created by veterans from the special effects industry, including people who have worked on Godzilla films, Ultraman and Attack on Titan.

Fantasian will be available to grab from the iOS App Store via Apple Arcade, the premium subscription service from Apple that allows you exclusive access to hundreds of mobile games with no invasive adverts or in-app purchases. The service costs $4.99 per month to subscribe and you can read more about it from the official website.
