Mojang has launched the first part of its massive Caves and Cliffs update for Minecraft.

The update has hit all versions of the game, which means it’s out now on both Bedrock and Java, which covers, wait for it, iOS, Android, Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.

As with most Minecraft updates, Caves and Cliffs adds new mobs, blocks and items to discover in the game while also making some changes to the world. In particular, this update is changing how world generation works, adding new underground cave biomes that will make subterranean exploration a lot more interesting.

Mojang has sliced this update in half though, as was announced earlier this year, with today’s update only including the new mobs and items. These include the Goat, Axolotl, Crystals, Spyglass, Geodes, Tinted Glass, Copper, Lightning Rod, Glow Squid, Glow Ink, Powder Snow, Lush Cave Blocks, Dripstone Cave Blocks, Deepslate, Ore Variants, Glow Lichen.

The second half of the Caves and Cliffs update for Minecraft is planned for the “holiday season” and introduces all the new world and biome generation changes to the game. We don’t have a solid release date for that yet but we will update you once we know more.

So if you want to enjoy the new mobs and items teased for Minecraft, you can update your game now and check them out. If you were more interested in the world changes, you’ll have to wait until the later part of the year for those to arrive.

Minecraft is available to download from the iOS App Store and the Google Play for Android store, where it is a paid title which costs £6.99 and also features in-app purchases.
