VERDICT

A fun little 3D platformer with bite-sized levels, but the controls annoy more than accommodate.

Pyp has one more chance to be a successful galactic pizza boy, otherwise he's out of a job and out of luck. Grab your spinny pizza delivery spin thingy, and get ready for some 3D platforming and gem collection. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you... Spincraft.

Now is the game worthy of such a grand introduction? Is any game really? Not by a long shot! This doesn't mean that Spincraft is a bad game though. Unpolished may be a better turn of phrase. Each level has you picking up three crystals that sit atop glow-ey blue pedestals. While these are needed to complete the level, there are also other crystals that you can spin into to collect currency to upgrade your spinner (and it gives you something else to do while you float and jump your way around the stages).

The levels themselves are made up of floating islands, and give off a 'Green Hills Zone' vibe. Pyp is moved around by a joystick while one button jumps and the other spins, which is your primary form of attack for both crystals and nasty critters. The game controls OK. There's a sort of a pinball vibe to the way Pyp's spincraft moves. It obeys your control, but it has kind of a wide arc, and more than a little element of randomness thrown in. You'll be careening off the sides of your surroundings as you try and get a bearing on the direction you wish to travel in. Really this is more the fault of the camera than the controls, as you never have a real good view on where you're going in relation to where you want to move. Either of these on their own aren't a big issue, but together, they consist of the majority of the frustration associated with the game.

As 3D platformers go, especially those on the iPhone, this is a decent offering. It could definitely use more polish, but the levels are short, and offer some fun devices to get around some of the later stages. As of writing, we're still wondering what this all has to do with pizza, but perhaps, it really isn't that important.
