Sky Tourist Blitz Trip Review

Sky Tourist Blitz Trip Review

Sky Tourist Blitz Trip is an odd little puzzle game that suspends its hero right in the middle of the action. Hung like a tacky air freshener, the dangling protagonist must be coaxed upwards though a series of physics based conundrums, collecting blocks and crystals on his way. You control the tourist's ascent through the vertically-scrolling levels by swinging him back and forth on a line between two rockets. Raising one missile higher than the other slides the little chap towards th…

Halfbrick’s new match-three puzzler Birzzle Fever is out now

Halfbrick Publishing has just released its latest free-to-play title on the App Store, the fast paced puzzler Brizzle Fever. This classic match-three puzzler will be familiar to anyone who has played Bejewelled. A grid of colourful birds greet you when you begin. Tapping on any bird that is touching two or more similarly colored friends makes them burst into a shower of feathers, and new birds flap into replace them. To spice things up, developer Enfeel has added time pressures. With each round playing out over a single minute you must be fast to rack up those high-scores. To further emphasise this focus on speed you also earn extra points the faster you link chains together. The more co…

DUNGEONy Review

Dungeony is an odd interpretation of a roguelike. Taking control of a hero you plunge down through randomly generated levels to battle untold terrors in your quest to level up. Where it differs from others examples of the genre, however, is that none of your adversaries attack or even move. As the initiator of every encounter, Dungeony takes on a puzzle like quality. With limited health you have to carefully select your fights and route through the world. Unfortunately, without monste…

Environmental physics puzzler Biosis is currently free on the App Store

Kostyantyn Salanda’s organic physics-puzzler Biosis is currently free on the App Store. Dragging a glowing blob through Biosis's puzzles quickly becomes a greater challenge than you would expect. Your tiny globular ward is pretty useless and relies on you to activate a variety of creatures and plants in each stage to push and pull it towards its goal. A slow starting pace gives you plenty of time to come to grips with the game’s world manipulation mechanics. Give it a little time, though, and you will find yourself firing your blob like a cannonball across the map in order to grapple it with a vine before swinging it safely into an exit. Exploring the lush hab…

Hyper Square Review

Hyper Square Review

Remember those shape sorter toys you had as a kid? The ones where you had to squeeze shaped blocks through similarly-shaped holes? Hyper Square is essentially an amped-up, caffiene addled version of the same toy. Instead of manipulating wooden shapes, however, you're swiping, re-sizing, and spinnimh digital squares into virtual targets. These mechanics are introduced one at a time. First, the game asks you to simply drag or fling squares towards their goal with the swipe of a fin…

Discover the power of nature in Globosome: Path of the Swarm on iPhone and iPad

Exploratory puzzle-adventure game Globosome: Path of the Swarm has just rolled onto the App Store. In this melancholy offering, you take control of a small round creature named Globo whom you must reunite with his swarm. The more of his ball-like pals you discover, the more barriers you'll be able to break though, opening up the game's lush jungles and dark ravines. Throughout the course of the game Globo will learn new skills. These will let him jump higher, push objects, and replicate faster. To control Globo on his adventure you will have three different control schemes on offer. We found the Marble Madness-styled gyro controls the most satisfying when we played Globosome on our…

Frantic twitch puzzler Hyper Square is on the App Store now

Hyper Square, a frantic twitch based puzzle game from Team Signal, is out now on the App Store. The gameplay revolves around swiping squares into portals to make them disappear. While the basics may seem easy, however, Team Signal adds increasingly more complex layers of mechanics, requiring you to resize and rotate tiles against the clock before flinging them into the requisite portal. Hyper Square’s vibrant aesthetic keeps the gameplay visually interesting and exciting, while also managing to increase its sense of urgency with its pulsing lines and colours. Despite this it remains quite minimal, ensuring that even at its most fraught you are able to follow what is going on.…

Alone in the Dark to sneak onto the App Store at midnight tonight

Alone in the Dark, the game that inspired the survival horror genre back in 1992, is finally making its way to the App Store. The iOS version of the Lovecraft-inspired chiller has you solving the murder of Jeremy Hartwood. Letting you take on either the role of private investigator Edward Cornby or the victim’s niece Emily, you must complete the various puzzle’s that fill Hartwood’s manner to unravel the mystery. Naturally, this port of the Atari PC classic feature’s new controls to optimise the experience for touchscreen. Controls aside, though, we're keen to see whether time has been cruel or kind to this infamous entry in the horror genre. Appropriately, …

Last Inua - An Arctic Adventure Review

Set in a frozen tundra, Last Inua is a chilly tale of isolation and desperation. An evil demon called Tonrar is trying to destroy the world. Only one person is able to stop him: a boy named Hiko who is blessed with a supernatural power. Unfortunately, these powers are too much for his adolescent body to handle, so his loving father, the powerful Ataataq, must help him on his quest. Their journey plays out in the form of a 2D puzzle platformer in which you switch back and forth be…

Icy platformer Last Inua will be sliding onto the App Store later tonight

Glowforth’s chilling début title Last Inua is coming to the App Store at midnight tonight. In this icy puzzle platformer, you take control of two Inuit heroes as they try to save their snow-covered home from the demon Tonrar. The pair of frostbitten adventurers are actually father and son duo Ataataq and Hiko, and they must work together if they hope to succeed. Luckily, Hiko is blessed with magical powers that allow him to create paths of light to aid his father in navigating the slippery world, and help solve the game's various puzzles. While Hiko can utilise mystical powers, father Ataataq's unique traits are far more down-to-earth. Rather than casting spells, he ca…

Bridge Constructor Médiéval Review

Bridge Constructor Médiéval Review

Mechanically, Bridge Constructor Médiéval adds very little to the existing Bridge Constructor formula. As before, building your bridge to cross the game’s various chasms is a simple process of selecting the desired materials from the menu and then tracing them into existence within a virtual grid. You have to work within a budget, making the construction process a little more tricky, especially if you want to achieve each stage’s more challengi…

Monument Valley Review

It would be easy to describe Monument Valley as an interactive M.C, Escher lithograph. But, while the game's topsy turvy environments certainly owe much to the Dutch artist’s work, giving you the ability to interact with a world of perspective-bending vistas, it is more than just a clever picture come to life. The aim of the game is to guide Princess Ida to the top of a series of towers. There are ten stages to complete, each containing a unique piece of architecture t…

Instantion Review

Like many of the best teachers, Instantion doesn't tell you the answers. From the very beginning, the 2.5D action puzzler is quite happy to leave you struggling with challenges, in the expectation that you'll eventually suss them out for yourself. This fits neatly with the game's virtual wire-frame world, which gives you the sense you're running simulated experiments under laboratory conditions. You have to hop your avatar over obstacles, and activate doors and bridges to get to…

Developed by Raketspel, this free-to-play puzzler blends wordsearch gameplay with gravity manipulation, creating a game that demands fast thinking and forward planning. You have to find all of the words in each of Word Monster's tile puzzles. Each round has a theme - one may have you searching for animals, while another will be spent locating girls' names. Tiny Thief gets magical new Bewitched chapter in latest update

Cutesy point-and-click adventure game Tiny Thief has just received an update which gives you access to a brand new chapter. Titled Bewitched, Tiny Thief's new level sees the King kidnapped by the Wicked Witch. Taking control of the pint-sized pilferer, it is your task to rescue him from her evil clutches. You can only fight fire with fire, however, so this episode has the little tea-leaf turning to the dark arts in order to fight off the witch’s spells. We really enjoyed Tiny Thief’s mix of platform and adventure elements. Its charming art style and clever puzzles earned it a strong recommendation, despite its relatively ease and brevity of the six original adventur…
